I agree, the "driving" part of the equation seems to be just WOT until the tires lose traction or another car knocks you off the track.  In the old days we had to actually use the throttle to keep the cars on the track.  All the skill now would seem to be in building and modifying the car for speed and traction, not the actual driving.  Anyone around here actually race these things so they could enlighten us?

Man is that fast!
When I was a kid my father was one of the local champs for our neighborhood slot car track. He also worked part time in the store, building cars, re-winding motors etc. did the work to offset the cost of his habit.
I never got to do much of it as it slots started to fade away when I got old enough to do my own work.

But I still have his original "slot car race box" sitting in my basement  :2vrolijk_21:

Man that was fast!

Finally got around to take a few pics.  Someday I will add the track to make it fourlane.

HOLY CRAP is right! I had no idea they had gotten that fast. I couldn't even tell what color the winning car was.

Decided not to bother with a 4-lane so I stuck with a 2-Lane setup...(nothing to do with my friend Don!) and lengthened the run and made both lanes nominally the same length.

Lane 1: 31.23 meters (outside lane at start/finish line)
Lane 2: 31.19 meters

This track runs counter clockwise as I didnt feel like resoldering the power supply track...there are two squeeze 180º hairpin turns, one 180ºx180º "ESS" set of hairpins, one 90º chrosover and two radius 2 crossover curves that help even out the track lengths
