Trike alternative?
« on: January 20, 2012, 10:19:36 AM »

A friend of mine has had a couple of knee operations and now is looking at converting his '09 EG Classic to a trike.  I have noticed many on this site have done amazing conversions to their rides, and considering that they are CVO's it's understandable why they converted rather than simply buying a Harley Trike off the floor.

I wondered if anyone has ever seen or used this alternative?

http://www.landingear.com/

For full explanation watch both videos... One at the bottom of the home page and one under "Instructional Video" heading.

I found this site and it looked interesting to me, but just wanted some input from anyone who has personal knowledge of the Leg-Up system, or failing that, your opinions are always welcomed.

He is looking at a conversion rather than trading in on an H-D Trike because he believes the conversions are a better route to go.  I'm not sure what to say to that due to not having any experience with either.  Except that I have ridden a Harley Trike and that is why I searched for the Leg-Up kit... I'm sure with it installed it will feel more like riding the way he is used to.

Thanks in advance for your input.

I saw the coolest Trike conversion kit installed on a 1200 Sportster at the dealer in Anchorage.  It's a Frankenstein kit that if you had the tools in your garage, could be installed by yourself.  Basically, all you need is the wrenches for the bike and a lift.  I checked out their installation video from their website and about the only thing I would need to convert my wife's bike would be the lift.  Check them out if you think it would be an option: http://www.frankensteintrikes.com/index.html   8)

Oh, I forgot to add, if you want a HD shop to install it, the one in Anchorage told me it would be about 5hrs labor... the kits run about $5,000 with another $300+ S/H...   8)

Wouldn't you rather have the LandinGear over a trike?

Some trikes at least look cool.  Should the time come that I'd need more stability than two wheels provide, for whatever reason, would choose a trike over any kind of training wheel looking bolt on.  Not even a choice.  Hell, I'd bolt an engine on my walker before I'd ride a Harley with training wheels.
