New seat for my 09 CVO Road Glide
« on: January 20, 2012, 09:34:33 PM »

We would like to put a new seat on our bike but each one we look at says we need to remove the fender trim strips.  Is this true?

'09: No.  12: For a two up seat, yes.

I bought a new mustang seat for my sesg3.  It's a 2 piece seat. I removed the rear bumpers off the rear pillon and now it sits flush right on those rubber strips and the mounting tab on the seat fits fine with the stock mounting thumb screw or even a regular seat screw will work.  I really didn't want  to remove those strips either.  I like em. Plus any protection is a big help for me. I snipped off those rear rubber bumper easily with a pair of wire cutters.  The bumpers we sitting on the strips. It was an easy fix.

Your 2009 does not have the fender trim strips under the passenger pillion.

x2. You just have some clear protective film on the fender under the passenger area of the seat.  You may have the dealer installed seat fix kit which in 09 they placed rubber bumpers under the rider portion of the seat.  But those would be located on either side of the battery box on the frame rails.  Stock 09 seat is one piece and the 12s are two piece.  So when you remove the passenger pillion they use the nicer looking trim strips because they are seen.
