It took LOTS of grease to refill (came this way from factory? Only has 2,000 Miles...)[/highlight]. Tech said it takes a special grease fitting to grease steering head  bearing (costs over $50 for this one fitting) and it's difficult to access hence sometimes overlooked on service by dealers.

Pana-guy,

I think you will find that they all come that way from the factory.  The steering head bearings are packed with grease prior to assembly, and not lubed via the grease fitting.  The first time you grease it with the fitting, you have to fill up the entire cavity to get grease to flow out of the top and bottom.  I used more than 1/2 tube of special purpose grease when I did mine.

GRC thanks for the reply and explanation. I can't understand why H-D just doesn't fill up the cavity up before the bikes leave the factory. Between the cost of the fitting and the grease it sounds like cost cutting to me.

Anyway my front end wobble problem is now corrected and I am very happy with my bike again  [smiley=smilie_staub.gif] !!

If you are getting the "oscillation" only on grooved road surfaces and you have stock Dunlop tires, the Dunlops are notorious for this. Metezler ME880's are a much better tire in my experience and handle much better and have better grip and best of all, they don't track grooves or oscillate!
