Check these out from Michelin.  Supposed to come out later this year.  Would be interesting in a motorcycle application.

I read something about this experimental project close to a year ago.  Michelin was calling it a "Tweel."  Combination of tire and wheel I guess.  There were pros and cons (at least at that time).  Biggest drawback then was that it wasn't any good above about 50 mph.  Lots of vibration that couldn't be balanced out beyond that speed and lots of heat and road noise.

Heard about these quite awhile back when I worked at Michelin in Greenville, SC. They may perform well - but they are MEGA-FUGLY to look at...

there is a certian amount of give in the side wall of tires that make the ride smoother. That's why all these fools with 26" wheels on their hoopties have gold teeth, because the jard them out!
