ALL 07 Touring Bikes to be Liquid Cooled ?
« on: July 11, 2006, 03:51:29 PM »

Well guys I heard from a very reliable source that all 07 Touring bikes will be liquid cooled AND that most likely will have a version of the V-Rod engine ... I would say the "source" is about 85% reliable ...we will know after this weeks Dealer meeting in San Diego BUT I'm betting he's right ... wonder whats NEXT????

I have heard from an equally reliable source that all 07 touring models will have seats.

I would be surprised if this were to happen. :o From the trend I'm seeing now the V-Rods aren't the hottest selling model they have. To me it wouldn't make sense to switch over to this platform at this time. [smiley=nixweiss.gif] JMHO

D00d, the chance of all 07 Touring models being liquid cooled is equal to the chance of a snow ball surviving inside the underwear of an overweight prostitute for six years after she's already been dead and in hell.

Fire I think general logic would lend weight to your way of thinking but I think this all has to do with the EPA preasure that Harley and all bike manufactors are getting ... if you think about it there is some sence to this claim ...Harley spent a lot of time and money coming up with the technology that went into the V-Rod ...and what better place to send up a "test" balloon so to speak then on a low volumn model like the V Rod ... my souce may be wrong ... but if I were a betting man I would bet that this time next week we will be saying "WHO WOULD HAVE THUNK IT"  [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

Bama, I thought you were actually kidding up until now.  Seems you're not  [smiley=nixweiss.gif] .

Ok, were it to happen a bunch of new EPA certifications would have had to happen.  That's public record.  Even if none of use wandered in to it the motorcycle press would have.

On top of that it's TOO BIG of a change for Harley to handle with it's normal secrecy.  HD would not allow such a change to come out and have public opinion form on its own solely in reaction.  We are a somewhat reactionary group after all.

To have the sudden and wholly unexpected loss of the venerable V-Twin thrust upon us would be a PR nightmare.  This dramatic of a change would have been worked through the motorcycle press and other channels to both prepare people for it and to pre-shape their opionions somewhat.

At least that's how I would'a done it......  [smiley=nixweiss.gif] .  Really think your 85% source is yanking your chain.

This is true, and time will tell. If the MoCo does do something like that just makes the resale value of my bike go up. I'll have a part of history that isn't being produced anymore. After thinking about this it might not be a bad idea at all. ;D

That would be pretty radical to not hear at least some rumblings from somewhere as Twolane say's. I don't see it happening either.

I do think he's right about the seat though.   [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Ah yes... but imagine what all our bikes will be worth if it IS true. [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif]

I know it sounds looney... I don't really buy it either... but why would the rumored new motor be a 96" and not a 95"?  Maybe there is some merit to it.  This is the week that the leaks (not coolant) are going to happen... the dealer show is set up and about to start.

I believe that will come true, just not for several years to come. You are right about the Revolution engine, the MOCO has too much money in that motor to restrict it to one type of bike, however, it's too soon for that.
H-D is going to push the old air cooled V-Twin just as far as it can. Look for a larger engine for '07. Probably a 95" or 96" motor. After all, we are now the runts of the litter. Most of the cruiser and touring bikes are at least 1600cc. They have the inventory of jugs and pistons to increase to a 95' without much expense at all. With the new EPA regs, you just have to make a bigger motor to get the same HP. Sell a 95' bike as the new standard {for PR purposes } and then have the stroker kit available in the SE catalog.

I bet we'll see a V-rod touring bike this year....some sort of fairing with a radio and cruise...with the CVO v-rod size motor..and sleek molded hard bags. Got to have a bigger Revoultion motor cause the thing make such poor torque for two -up riding.  The Flh line will be all EFI as will all other bikes except perhaps some sportys. The FL's will all be at least 95" er's with the new cam plate , dual o'2 sensors, and of course cats.
The V-rod tourer will be the test exercise this year to see if the Harley buyer will go for it and to what extent.
And ..there is no reason why we wont see a Twin cam with water cooled heads in the near future.
If you can keep the head cool...you can run bigger displacement and higher compression ..make more power and keep emissions lower...see NOX is the big problem cause of high combustion chamber temps..that's why you have EGR and a converter on your car..the converter alone cant lower NOX enough without reburning some of the exhaust gases (EGR) which dramatically lowers the combustion temps.

I'm with Electraglideclyde and Syclone, it will probably be 2010 before the Baggers are liquid cooled.  Good chance on a Touring style VRod for 07..  I think the time has come thru the EPA that dealers will no longer do mod's such as pipes and SERT's..
