2012 SESG Exhaust Question
« on: January 27, 2012, 04:40:24 PM »

please bare with me... I know there are hundreds of opinions on this subject.
I just put some $ down on a 2012 SESG Citrus and Gunstock. supposed to get it the end of Feb!  I am excited!
I've been lurking here for a few weeks looking for exhaust ideas.
NorthGeorgiaHawg has what immlooking to do.  Fulsac x pipe with baffles, or I may do slip ons.
NGAHawg, if you are out there, I have a couple questions....
1. how do you like the sound and performance?
2. would you have done anything different?
3.  Do you by any chance have a video you could post with sound?
4.  any pics of the exhaust?

any help will be appreciated!
have a great weekend all!

Just FYI....you were looking for pics----the "X" pipe fits under the stock heat shields and the baffles fit inside the stock muffler bodies, so pics will not do much--it all still looks stock. You may see some reflection in the side of the trans cover which shows the "X" pipe as being black but that's about it.

I think it's safe to say the Fullsac X pipe and Fullsac baffles is the #1 exhaust system on the SESGs since 2010.  There are several reasons for that.

The SESG exhast is the best looking exhaust system that the MoCo has ever put out.....so most want to keep that look.

The Fullsac X pipe gets rid of the catalytic converter (huges source of heat and exhaust obstruction) and coupled with the Fullsac baffles provides comparable performance increase to what other "performance" exhast systems offer.

Cheaper than most other after market exhaust systems.

Maintains a "stock" look and the EPA certification stamp are still visable for any over zealous LEOs.

And, it's a nice sound without being obnoxious. :2vrolijk_21:

The EPA stamp is worthless if the muffler has been modified.  Just a technicality...

you would have to take it off the bike to be sure it was modified.

for any cop on the side of the road and 90% of mechs at shops - they are going to think its a stock muffler

and that sums up its great appeal

I'm running the 2" Fullsac cores myself, but I stuck a 1/4" bolt through the core just ahead of the mounting ring.  A baton stuck into the end of the baffle is a quick way to check without removing any parts.

I just put the Fullsac 2" CVO cores on my FLHXSE2.  Love the sound.  Much tamer than the Rineharts on my 05.

The sound is similar to what the touring screaming eagle mufflers from back in 05 sounded like.

Thanks everyone for your responses.
I read in another thread on here that Fulsac will de-cat, ceramic coat an OEM headpipe for 199.00 and  exchange of your factory headpipe.
Anyone have any experience with that?

Mine and my wife's bikes have the OEM head pipe decated (I just coined that word.....decated ;D) but not ceramic coated.  I think most of the members now just get the X pipe to avoid and down time.  And if I remember correctly, there may be another HP or two and another ft. lb. of torque or two with the X pipe vs. the decated OEM headpipe.

Also, I'm old enough to know that I'm not going to impress anybody but myself with a bunch of noise and I like listening to my stereo at 80 mph so we both have the 1.75 Fullsac baffles.....very happy with them! :2vrolijk_21:

I thought Steve doesn't de-cat the pipes anymore?

Steve at Fullsac talked me out of modifying my original header. I'm still very happy with my X pipe and 2" cores, but if you want to have the stock header modified, you could buy one of the two currently on Ebay for $75 or $90 and send it to him for modification. Then you would still have your original pipe in case you ever needed it for legal or other reasons.

Steve offers a budget option if you don't want to spring for the "X" pipe.  For $199 he'll send you a ceramic coated de-catted stock head pipe.  When you get the pipes from Steve, you send your stock head pipes, with the CAT, back to Fulsac as part of the deal.
