Hit a Bridge? How do you not see this coming?

Ocean going barge on the Tennessee River hits a bridge over US68 in Kentucky.  With all the modern nav onboard how do you not know a big assed bridge is out there?  Oh, and to top it off, the barge was on its way to Cape Canaveral.  The ship is carrying an Atlas 5 rocket....   Oy vey.

I think if he'd gotten in the center of the bridge, he would have cleared by a couple inches. ;D

But, it's skeery who they let drive eh?

That picture reminded me of something, totally unrelated but here it goes : ever see those road signs that say "Caution Damaged Guardrail Ahead" ??

What the heck is that about ? Do they think somebody is zipping along for a Sunday afternoon Harley ride and thinks to themselves "I believe on this next bridge I'll rub the ol' Electraglide up against the guardrail, OH WAIT, sign says it's damaged already, darn, guess I'll have to wait for the next bridge" ???

Picky picky.  Maybe he was just being proactive and taking a section of the bridge to Cape Canaveral to save NASA the trouble of requesting funding for a bridge they need to build for golf cart races over the Intercoastal or some other vital security project?  

There are already a lot of bridges in Kentucky, and they will probably never miss it.   But they might want to put a Detour sign up or the state could just charge a $2 entry and rename the area "Tennessee River Carwash Park".
