exposed wires
« on: January 31, 2012, 12:24:48 PM »

I just got another cvo 2011.5 FLHTCUSE6. Traded in the FLHTCUSE3. In looking the bike over I noticed that just hehind the rear cylinder where the frame rails are there is an opening and you can see several wires. These are all housed under the seat and there is a plate between the rails but at the same time thre is an opening there where all these wires are exposed. It seems that on my old 08 that area was all plated up with no openings. Any comments.

The Touring frame was changed completely for the 2009 models, so you can't directly compare your new bike to the old one.  If you think there is something wrong, go to a dealership and look at some other new Touring models (doesn't have to be a CVO) and see what they look like.

The frames are different and i was aware of it. It just seemed starnge that there is an opening and you can see the wires in the bettery compartment. You would think they cover that area like on the old frame rather than leaving the wiring somewhat exposed. The other bikes in the 2011 and 2012 year are all the same. Actually the new framees have this opening on the touring bikes. No more need for this posting.

On a similar note just watch out for your saddlebag wiring rubbing on the tire. Had to have mine replaced because of it. If you pull you bags off make sure you see how the wires are tucked in there and maybe add another zip tie or even velcro cable ties. Guess those could trap dirt though and scratch der paint.
