Put one on my Springer and no problems. Have peace of mind here in the desert, PLUS it holds another quart.

Do you have enough space to remove the filter when you change the oil?

FIRST,  from my conversation with many........ EVERY HD MOTOR should have a cooler.  Period. As most of us should know 3 things  cause problems with our air cooled motors 1) heat 2) heat & last but not least............................. 3) heat.

Have some experience,  go with the JAG cooler,  it's really better than the one HD uses,  the reason: it has less pressure drop and just cools better, the HD one on purpose slows down the flow that is the reason for the pressure drop, so they can get the same cooling as the high flow JAG,, at one time I had 2, yes 2 jags installed, (something you can not do with the HD coolers), but after riding 25K figured out all I was gaining was perhaps a faster cool down after setting in traffic,  again I would go with the JAG,   :)

Maybe try the oil filter with the hex nut on the end will make it a bit easier. Just a thought.

It's tight but I've never had a problem changing the filter,  one soluation is quit buying the HD filter and purchase the K&N filter with the hex nut on the end.  ::)

i got a kit that mounts the filter vertically on the frame [?riggs? cant remember]

NO issues with changing oil, no issues with oil on the motor mounts, no mess at all.
