Hope you washed ALL traces of salt off, Chris!  You're a braver man than I though, in these temperatures!  :2vrolijk_21:

HID might be the answer to your dipped beam.

This may help:  There are various HID kits that will work for your RG.  Easy to find on the internet.  I have Xenonlink system:

H4(9003, HB2) Hi/Lo 6000K Automobile HID Kit
Locate in US & Canada    $119.99

Don't know the cost to the UK but there are no doubt similar set ups available.  LED's are only starting to become available and are at least three times the cost so far.  FWIW, the set I have is HID low beam and halogen high beam.  You can get dual HID set ups too but these generally need a separate / additional power connection.  The low beams are so good, I literally never need high beams, even on dark canyon roads.  The "6000" is the purest white and brightest.  Higher numbers begin to tint blue or purple. Lower tend to get yellow.  Easy to install; really plug and play.  Hope this helps.

firstly, well done braving the cold, i am also looking to upgrade my light but another problem is the direction the beam dips. If leds are manufactured for DOT (US market) will these work on our side of the road ?? will the light dazzle the oncoming traffic and fail MOT?

You could also consider the Motolights which mount on the brake calipers. They are low enough to not blind oncoming drivers but get their attention since the lights move side to side when the forks turn as well as up and down over road bumps and dips.
This photo shows how much brighter they are compaired to stock Roadglide headlights.

I've used US headlights (and on previous bikes, European ones) and MOT testers have never noticed. Beam tends to be flat, rather than dipping to one side, and so doesn't cause dazzle.

let me know if you change and how much better the new one is.
I went to Aviemore few years ago for the Thunder in the Glens rally and needed better lights that night. Really nice part of the world to tour, all you  need now is few more months of sunshine! Not thats its ever much better round here !!

What about PIAA lights, they have kits for many bikes but not it would seem for  Harleys, but they do  have mounts that would fit the crashbars , not easy with the lowers but maybe poss ,

Hi. Do you have the exact spec or item number of the bulbs? Did you also adjust the direction to make them dip less?

Check the adjustment on your headlights.  I've seen numerous complaints in various forums from owners indicating that their lights were aimed too low from the factory.  The adjustment procedure is in the owner's manual.  Best to check that first before resorting to replacement bulbs.  You might be happy with them as they are if readjusted.

I dont recall the specs but I did adjust the beam up ...not the easiest thing to do  just gotta find the right size socket to fit both on the adjuster and thru the hole in the fairing

Hi, although I found the stock lights very good, (compaired to the Electra glide) I did two things;

1. Installed the Kuryakyn spots on the fender, (same as VaEagle above)
2. Installed PIAA motorbike anti vibration extreem white light bulbs. H291E H4 12V 60/55=110/100W ANTI-VIBRATION BULB
These are excellent. straight replacement, no wiring or needing to alter settings.

I have also just ordered a light modulator kit.
I shall be up in Aviemore this year, look out for the nice Red RG with sheep skin seat cover.

I hope you washed all that salt off!!!

safe riding.  :2vrolijk_21:

Was in scotland again this weekend, just as cold  ,my ride back from Campbeltown on sunday was amazing ,
largly dry roads and no wind, despite the cold a feeling of spring in the air ,  there were a few more bikes out this weekend especially around Inverary mainly BMWs , no probs at all using the Roadglide just got to spend some time cleaning the salt off ,
