All I wanted to do was sit on my SG in the garage....
« on: February 11, 2012, 10:23:42 AM »

Here's a little Feb humor :P. Was out in my garage yesterday and looked over at my SG sitting there wrapped up in her winter blanket with her battery tender keeping her pulse beating, and I thought WOW ~  :pepper: I've only got 500 miles on her since I got her in August due to my mc accident and not being able to ride.  So, I pulled the blanket back and climbed on the saddle (anxious to recall that wind in your face feeling) when I decided to take it off the kickstand and turn on the ignition (mistake  :'() the alarm went off (never heard the alarm before) and it was LOUD  :nervous: !  So I proceed to run in the house and grab my keys.  Once back in the garage, she was very happy to recognize her key pacifier and she quit her screaming  :love_3:  So, since we were all quiet and happy  :1syellow1: I decided to start it up. (Another mistake  :() having 4 inch Rinehart's and a V&H X pipe, she can put out a pretty good rumble when in a confined space, especially in a garage with the door down.  She turned right over and was purring away when the security alarm on my vehicle in the next bay starts going off.  Running back in the house to get my truck keys so I could silence this screaming was becoming rather familiar to me  :pepper:  After getting the truck alarm quite and turning off my ignition on my SG, I was just starting to wrap up my little adventure with a smile  :vrolijk_4: on my face when suddenly another alarm starts screaming  :'(,  it was the CO2 monitor in the garage screaming probably from my SG exhaust since I didn't open the garage door a little to let fumes out  :-\.  I couldnt help but stand there and laugh to myself  :lolk: cause this whole alarm episode started because I just wanted to set on my scooter.  The next time I feel like climbing on the saddle, I will be prepared  :1syellow1:

Oh such a familiar familiar story

I honestly do believe this is why the neighbors believe we are heathens. If they themselves OWNED a motorcycle they would understand!

LOL! But good GRIEF... you trying' to KILL yourself? NEVER EVER run an engine in a closed garage! Very funny story tho...  :drink:

Ever since I put the V&H Big Ovals on my wife's new Tri Glide, it sets off a car alarm when we pass a certain house coming out of our neighborhood... I think I know which house it is now. Makes me chuckle every time it happens. Buster's Fullsac 2" baffles don't do it... only the trike does.

Yep, a few inches of snow on the ground and nothing better to do with your time can create this "perfect storm"  :innocent:

Place where I worked had an 8 story parking garage and finally had to ban bikes....due to all the car alarms that got set off when someone rode their HD to work.

LMAO   ;D - Those monoxide sensors are rather ear piercing.. i have two built into the walls of my 4 car garage and it only took one time to figure out i never wanted that thing blasting... They wont go off until the air clears..  ( at least mine anyway).. Now with your bike's security system.. never, never leave your FOB on your workbench, then start your bike and leave for a day's ride... :huepfenjump3: :huepfenjump3: did that once.....
hope you get healed real soon so ya get your bike out it the real world  :2vrolijk_21:

I have the V&H big ovals on my '01 Fatboy and I will attest to them being loud - even with the baffles in.

That's freakin hilarious! I never run my bike in the garage even with the door open due to setting off the co2 detectors in the house. It's amazing how fast the bike sets it off. I have never set it off with the car. By the way I can relate because I was just in the garage looking out at the frozen driveway!!!  FACE

Great story! Can relate from here in MN. Sometimes I just go in the garage and stare at the bikes. Don't even uncover them mind you, just stare at the 3 scooters under their covers. Better times around the corner!

No smart a$$ comments from the FL & CA crowd please.

Yea, the warm climate folks just don't understand how us cold weather riders have to resort to the "little" things just to get through the long, cold winters.  :coolblue:

Ok, ya "got" me.  Working in the medical field I know about carbon monoxide poisoning, but honestly, I was only going to start it and then turn it right back off.   :wall:

Why didn't you have the video rolling for this? That would have so much fun to watch. We just have to get a little dose when we haven't been in the saddle for a spell. I feel your pain, but for me it's never been the weather, it's all this getting old stuff that keeps hitting me. Thanks for a great story.

Very cute story.
You may want to rethink the short startup times over the winter. Everything I have read and the mechanics I have talked to say that short startups is one of the worst things you can do for motor longevity. Old way of thinking was to start it up once and awhile to keep things lubed up and try to prevent rust. Now the thought is that short startups allow it to warm up slightly and the temp differences cause condensation inside that doesn't get burned off so it leaves water in oil and can promote rusting. I have been told only run motor if you can run it for 20 minutes or so and moving to get the airflow.
I hope you can get riding soon.
