Maybe saying bye to my convertible & upgrading to 2012 CVO Street Glide.
Why should I or why shouldn't I?

Any suggestions?

Hi from Germany. I think its depanding by your way of driving. The convertible is a wonderful bike for shorter distances and or day trips. I had several Softails (non CVO's) by my own and after I started to ride longer trips with my wife we felt more and more unconfortable. After a test ride with a Street Gilde the decission was very clear. I ordered a 2012 CVO Street Glide (Ruby Red) with detachable colour matched tour pack. I think with this you have the best of both worlds, with tour pack for longer trips (and space for my wifes things) and without for day trips or short distances or in the city. But again its up to your preferences.

Regards from cold old Germany.

I think for longer distance you will be happier with the Street Glide...but just a suggestion..try and rent one for a weekend and do a few hundred miles and the decision should be easy. That's how I went from Softail to Road King years ago....then I wanted a radio, but that's a whole other story....

My seat has been re-foamed & I do have a paint matched chopped tour pak. I've been on long rides (350 miles) and felt fine afterwards. I thought about keeping my baby but can't justify having two bikes, but after investing over ten grand into it and only five thousand miles on her its a toss-up.

If you are happy with your bike in every case than keep it. Just because you maybe like the new bike's color or whatever you might have next year the same problem with the 2013 bikes. I know what I'm talking about. The only good reason could be a for you a reasonable price for your current bike. (Sorry for my bad english)

What ever you will ride in the future

Ride safe.

Why are u thinking about the switch? Is it a fairing? Is it a different suspension, softail vs. a touring? Is it a bumpin' sound system? There are solutions that could turn your CVO into the perfect bike for u. But if u are doing 10 or 20 thousand miles a year and alot of it done loaded for bear, then I get the urge. But then u go and say street glide and I'm thinking u want ALL of the above. It is a pretty bike and then there is the WartHog of Harleys, the RoadGlide. They make a 2012 CVO RG that will do all of the above atleast as well and does it  in really cool colors too!! ;)

Your Softail is a beautiful color  :2vrolijk_21: I owned a Softail back in 2009 and after taking long trips I made the decision to step up to the touring bike (2012 StreetGlide). It was the best decision I ever made  :idea3:.  The bike is comfortable, sporty and everything the Softail lacked.  Good luck with your decision.

Personal choice, but I love my ConV.  I have had a Road Glide and it was just to big and bulky for me.  I have taken my ConV cross-country and enjoyed the ride, but I am a former custom chopper, hardtail guy, so consider the source.

You've already turned your bike into a Road King.  The only thing missing is a batwing.  I'd keep it and consider an aftermarket fairing if you prefer a Street Glide after riding one.

IMO it comes down to personal desire such as a passenger, and traveling distance.  I am 32 and have no passenger and 90% of my rides are under 50 miles (5,000 miles a year).  I have done over 400 miles in one day with no problem. 98% of the time I keep the bags, shield, ect on the bike so the convertible part isn't that big of deal to me. At this moment in time the Convertible fits me great.

I echo those sentiments as well.  I just swapped bikes in favor of the 2012 in the red.  I love the bike because of the low distance to the ground which improves maneuverability.  Most of the time all the elements of the convertible are in place but once in a while I like to strip it all off and ride something unbridled.  With this new windshield, there is nothing that the bike doesn't have, save heated seats and grips.  (My wife swears that I told her it had heated seats). As she is only 5 feet tall, she has a little difficulty slinging her leg over the back seat but is getting better and better.  That is the reason I didn't go with a Street Glide.....thinking of the sweetie, you know??  Real important if you a ride-buddy!  ha!  If circumstances change, there will always be other bikes and I just might take that option but for now, the convertible is my bike of choice.  Pork.

I did buy a front fairing from Dragonfly, my dealer was installing it and called to say get down here and look at the fairing. it looked like crap(couldn't even see over the fairing cause it sat too high. Dragonfly said before I bought the fairing it was a good fit on softie's(how wrong they were), anything to make a sale.
The only way you can put a front fairing on this bike is to have a mounting bracket fabricated.

I'm telling you that when this bike is out people look. it took two first place awards for best in class.
maybe I'll keep it buy a street glide too. Hell, its only money.

Assuming you do not "hate" the ConV keep it for now and wait to see what the 110th Anniversary bikes will be.  :nixweiss: Not to mention I'll miss your sage advice. :cherry:
