Here are some pics of how I did the saddlebag wiring for the iPod.  I liked the functionality of the stock iPod pouch in the right saddlebag lid and wanted to keep that.  So, I procured some USB and 3.5mm AV extension cables to run from the radio head to the saddlebag, and worked the connections so I could get the saddlebag off quickly and easliy.  Hardest part was massaging the grommet to fit the hole and accomodate both cables, then weatherproof it with a little extra foam weatherstrip stuffed in the remaining spaces.

One last one of the amp wiring and 40A fuse under the left side cover (8-ga).   Used 3M  tape along with industrial velcro to make it removable in the event future service access is needed:

Tuned the amp to JL specs and all I can say is WOW!  This setup is the Schnitt!!   :carrot: :bananarock:  Took me about 5 days working slowly/methodically to prevent mistakes, test fit, test power on, and reassemble.  This Kenwood head unit is the best I've ever seen.  My passenger can actually watch a movie on that screen from the iPod if she wants! (But then, she would be admitting that the ride is boring...)  I run XM from the GPS through the Kenwood's rear AUX IN port and it works awesome.

Thanks again to all for the inspiration (and test-fitting the amp!).  This is WELL WORTH the effort and kicks the crap out of anything audio with the Harley name on it!

Nice job on the install and thanks for posting up the pics.
I'll bet that thing rocks!

Great to see the family of "audio nutz" is growing larger and larger!!
You've got the bug now .... I see massive cycling through of speaker brands in your future.

Kudos again for tackling the self-install.  :)

Awesome look to the bike.  I like what you did with the tweeters and how they are placed!  I plan on stealing that idea.

Props to Dave for posting info on what he did; how he did it; and pictures of the audio upgrade.

And props for giving his iPod module/harness to a buddy for use on the latter's bike.

Thanks Carl, and all.  I've gleaned a lot of great info from this site.  Thought I might give back a little.  Figure if I jump in, maybe it will motivate others as well.

If Harley saw enough folks modding their bike's stereo systems, maybe they'd be convinced it'd be worth putting some REAL stereo equipment in their bikes!

Hey Dave -

Thought I would respond in this thread to keep it focused where it needs to be. I've had my Rockfords CRANKED with them fused at 20 amps and so far no issues. It might take some doing to find a 15amp AGU fuse locally but I'll see what I can come up with. I seem to remember that I spoke to Rockford about current draw and 11 - 12amps is stuck in my head. I'm not sure enough about it to state it definitively though.

For your setup - I would probably drop your fuse to 25 and run the system. I would be surprised to see it blow even with your system at max volume. I certainly appreciate your calculations for speaker wattage and current draw - made my head hurt - but I just cracked a beer to make it feel better so thanks!! ( ;) )

Let me know how it goes ....
