how did you install your lift
« on: February 13, 2012, 06:06:55 PM »

This is how I installed my bike lift. When I built my man cave I had the concrete recessed down where I can drive right on my lift without a ramp. Then before the pour of concrete I ran a piece of conduit from the pit over to the wall and mounted the pedal to operate the lift on the wall and welded nuts on the bottom of the lift and mounted the wheel chock on a seperate plate so i can remove the wheel chock and  drive over it and not be in the way.

Worse than that with my lift:

1)  Can't easily get my bike on it as the ramp is steep, and the bottom of the bike contacts it
2)  Bike skids all over the ramp trying to get it up
3) When you do get it up, no room to put the stand down
4) My legs won't reach the floor so I can't put my feet down either!

because of 3) and 4) I've got wooden platforms made to go either side.  If ONLY I'd though about this when I was getting the garage built! :(

Just as a safety precaution.....a non-slip coating on that shiny, slippery metal surface might be a good idea seeing as how it's no longer elevated and much easier to walk onto.
Painted metal is very slippery when it or your boots are wet!!

have you done anything to handle drainage in the recess?  I have floor drains installed so that vehicles can be washed in the garage if need be, and I wouldn't want to be mopping out under the lift...

Get a different way to hold the front tire, hence the bike!!!!! That setup is too loose and unsafe for the scooter. I distroyed i bike with that setup. Here is a pic of mine with different way, MUCH more secure. No help needed just ride up and get off. I never use straps to hold it down unless I'm removing wheel(s) or more in depth than that...
I love the work u have done, it is way nice, please come do mine next  ;)

I do have a floor drain in the bottom of the pit and I can't use a chock like that with my wrap around fender on my chopper. I put a pit in my buddy's garage for about 250 dollars and just mounted the pedal in the corner by the wheel chock now he couldn't put a drain but for 2 years now without a problem and he loves it
