Mustache bars or original.
« on: February 14, 2012, 12:40:45 AM »

Just wondering what you guys think about using mustache bars over the original bars?  I took my lower fairing off my bike yesterday and liked the looks of it  better. I did notice the engine also ran cooler. :2vrolijk_21: Like the look if the mustache bar but how does it work for taller guys and do I need to use highway pegs also? Pictures would be great.

I'm planning on removing the lowers from my bike this spring when I get it out of storage, due to not liking how they look.  And the easiest way is to take them off with the factory highway bar as one unit.  This will also allow me to put them back on easily in the fall, when up here in NH it starts to get cold pretty quickly.

This allows me to put on any highway bar in its place, as you know first hand.  I personally really like the looks of the mustache bars that came on the 2010 CVO SGs.  So that is the one I will be going with.  Which I will add the passenger foot pegs to, that I removed from the back to put floorboards on for my girl.  :2vrolijk_21:

I did the opposite. Took off the mustache bars to add lowers. Photos of 2010's should be representative of the look

X2  :2vrolijk_21:     At 6'4", my knees were in my teeth if I tried to put my feet up that high. :nixweiss:  I added the full crash bar so that I could add the lowers.  I think a baggers looks like it's got it's pants down around it's ankles without the leg fairings.  Guess I been riding Ultra Classics to many years. :nixweiss:

My 2010 SESG came with mustache bars and I didn't find them comfortable (I'm 5'9).  I wound up in a "bow-legged" position trying to use them.  Installed hi-way pegs and I never use the mustache bar.

Had the M bar on my 08  looked good but worthless without highway pegs.

Think it would be less useful for a taller rider... can't really see someone w/long legs using the foot/heel rest that is stock on the moustache bar. :nixweiss: I would be more inclined to install some highway pegs lower so I could stretch my legs out more and rest my heels on them vs resting the back of my calf on the pads at the top of the moustache bar or bending my knees and resting my feet/heel on those pads.

I agree, I do not think the Mustache bar's foot rests will be of much use to me, since I'm 6'.  I'm choosing it purely for its looks, with plans to install the rear passenger pegs on it for actual use.

different strokes for different folks, that's why all our bikes are both beautiful and completely different.

I am 6'2" and have the mustache bars on my ConV (sorry, traveling now, no pics).  I love them in every way a rider can man-love a set of highway bars!  Wouldn't give them up for anything else...
