FLHXSE/SESG tires
« on: February 14, 2012, 01:49:42 PM »

Hey gang,

I'm going to be in the hunt for some new tires on my 2010 FLHXSE before next season.  I'm wondering what brand and model tire people seem to be going with.

On the HD forums, I've read many great things about the Dunlop E3's, though I don't see them offered in the sizes for the FLHXSE.

The Metzeler ME880's are an option, but I've read both good an bad, and seen some pretty alarming pictures of the tires with chunks missing from the center.

FWIW, I've also bumped up to a 19" Agitator front wheel.

According to the P&A book, the front is a Dunlop D408 130/80/B19, and the rear is a Dunlop D407 180/55B/18.

Any advice and experience is appreciated.

Thanks,
Chad

Lots of threads and lots of posts on this....did you try the search?

Personally, I get good traction and good mileage out of the OEM tire.....don't see a need to change. :nixweiss:

I shamelessly admit, I failed to use the search function!

I was thinking the same thing about the OEM tires as well, but thought I'd do my due diligence...

Unless some manufacturer has just recently updated their offerings, you will be hard pressed to find a 180/55B18 tire with the correct load rating from anyone other than Dunlop.  The only other 180/55 - 18  I'm aware of is a radial from Metzler that has a significantly lower load rating than your current D407.
