Stick with my 2007 SG or get the 2012 Citrus SG?
« on: February 14, 2012, 10:02:06 PM »

Hey folks, just found this board yesterday or so.

This may be odd sounding to you, but was hoping to get some feedback to help me make a decision.

Ive put a deposit down on a 2012 SG CVO.

But I am having second thoughts. I currently have a 2007 SG and I am embarrassed to say Ive put 4200 miles on it since I bought it new. I also have another bike that I use less than this one.

I wasn't really in the market for a new SG but when I saw the pic of this one I was blown away. Also, I am a big fan of being as safe as possible and Anti Lock brakes seems like a must have (or am I missing something)? If anti lock brakes prevent accidents, the additional expense is a no brainer.

With all the add ons I am going to be paying 40k or so for the new bike. My 2007 SG has the 103 engine upgrade and they will give me 13k. I save about 800 bucks in sales tax due to the trade.

Money isnt really an issue. I do hate to waste money though.

In terms of projected riding I dont think I will put more than 1000 miles a year on the bike for the next two years. After that, possibly quite a bit more. I am somewhat busy doing business projects the next two years.

I dont know if yall can help. But if you have some helpful, friendly advice Id like to hear it.

I have to pick up the bike sometime Thursday.

Thanks in advance.

First off welcome to the site... glad to have you join us. :2vrolijk_21:

For the amount of miles you predicting you are going to be riding in the next couple years why not wait and see what comes down the pike... could be even more than ABS when you're able to ride the bike more. :nixweiss: And if there isn't you might be able to find a low mileage used 2012 in the color you are wanting when you are able to ride more.

Sell 'em all.  Make a little with the money then buy something when you're actually ready to ride it.

I agree with Dood  hold off until your able to ride more. No tellin what will come by then. Every year there's one new bike I've got to have until I see the next new ones. You've got a nice low mileage bike so waiting for the right time to upgrade should be a no brainer.

If you have the money, and you want it, then, I say go out and stimulate the economy.
Enjoy it as much as you can...if that is 500 miles a year then make all 500 count.
I know there are loads of people here with all sorts of toys like muscle cars etc. who just enjoy having them to use once in a while when they feel like it.

You said money was not an issue...then you sure don't need to justify your purchase with how much you will get to use it.

Life is short...do what makes you happy!

I say do like many others here and buy the new one and keep the old one!

Pirate,
I agree with guppy, if you want it and can afford it, do it. I, like you, sometimes feel guilty about the "toys" in the garage because they do not get the use they should due to work, but whats the point of working if you can't enjoy what limited time you have for yourself with the spoils of your efforts.

Don't get me wrong... I hate wasting money too, but at the end of the day you buy this bike and use up some money.... so what... you'll get a whole fresh batch of money next week!

Get happy!

ps... and not for nuth'n, but when you do get a chance to ride... you won't regret your choice. The new 2012 FLHXSE3 is lights years nicer than your 07. Great choice... I'm jealous!

Wasn't it the color that you couldn't resist?   :nixweiss: What if you never see another SG that you love the color as much as that one. There is a big difference in the frame, ABS, and ride between the '07 and the '12.  The difference is so Hugh that I think you would find yourself enjoying the new scooter so much more that you will find yourself riding it a lot.  I say go for it  :2vrolijk_21: enjoy the ride and then thank me later for helping you pull the trigger  ::)

I say WTH and go for it!!...right now, because of my job, I don't put on more than about 1500 miles/year, and I've got two relatively new CVOs to ride!!  Do I regret getting them?  Heck no!!, Plus I know on the days that I can get out and ride, they're already in the garage waiting for me...I don't have to go out there and say, crap, I wished I would have gotten the SESG3.  If monies not really an issue and you really like the bike, then it's not really wasting money, IMO...take the plunge, you won't regret it. :)

That's just stupid Charlie.  Having more than one bike for one rider is a dumass waste.  Seriously.  Who'd be such a wanker?

Well... yeah, but when they look that good you're given an "exception."

I was in the same boat as you and wasn't sure if I should get the 2012 Hot Citrus,  :nixweiss: but thought hard about it and looked at many posts and pictures. ::)
:-X Not having the chance to see a 2012 SG in the flesh I just ordered one and yes the Hot Citrus  :orange: was on the top of my list although the Ruby  :apple: was a contender but was not sure I wanted another red bike as I already have 2 red ones,  :2vrolijk_21: (Ultra Classic and Fatboy Custom).
When I walked into the shop and first saw the Hot Citrus/Antique Gunstock that was it,  :) the bike was mine and am glad I have this fantastic bike parked in the bike room. :huepfenjump3:
Who knows what will come in future releases, look at the 2010 and 2011 SG's they are both nice bikes and I would still be over the moon if I had either one as well.
I don't do many miles either but when I do ride its priceless.  :drink:

So if your gut feeling is telling you something and you like what you see go for it.
Even if you don't ride it for a while it will be there for later on and when you get the urge to go for a ride you will be glad you took the plunge.

So when you lay your eyes on the bike just smile and say thats mine  :2vrolijk_21:
