Most dealers add a pigtail as part of setup...but it's not part of the HD package.

My dealer installs the pigtail for "free" on new bikes.  But then of course, in order to use it, you must buy a battery tender.  Pretty good business sense on the dealer's behalf.

Mine came with one but I am not sure if it came from the factory or the dealer.   :nixweiss:

I checked the owner's manual and based upon what it says I tend to think that the dealers install them.  The manual says "if the motorcycle is to be stored with the battery installed, it will be necessary to connect a battery tender to maintain charge".  This seems to imply that the bike does not come with a battery tender from the factory...

Both my '10 and '11 SESG's came with them...from 2 different dealers.

It is a wiring extension.  A "tail" sticking out there for easy attachment when needed.

To "pigtail" generally means to connect additional wires to one or more existing wires, to provide an additional connection.

In this case, it means the Battery Tender connector that is connected directly to the battery... in effect, it is "pigtailed" with any other connections on the battery terminals

Must be an American slang thing!

It's a wiring connector for attaching a small battery charger.  Harley sells them as a separate accessory, or they come with the actual battery charger, and they basically make it simple to hook up a battery charger without having to remove the seat to access the battery.
