Accessory prices
« on: February 18, 2012, 02:13:18 PM »

Was browsing the HD online accessory catalogue and was amazed at the seemingly across-the-board price increase on accessories. Examples: Streamliner Passenger floorboard kit was $379.95, now $431.95. Chrome Tour-Pak hinges were $49.95, now $56.95 etc, etc, etc.

I guess bike sales must be off so they gotta make it up somewhere.

Trying to minimize the impact of 20% off dealers?    :nixweiss:

Costs are going up in China, both for manufacturing and for shipping.  It's time for Harley to find another even cheaper third world supplier.

Nah, 20% off dealers don't affect the MoCo's profits one bit.  They charge the dealers a set price for all thier parts, accessories and motorcycles.  What the dealers sell for above or below MSRP only affects the dealers profit margin, not the MoCo.

What does N & A mean?  Based on volume?

Hi 1st post here but have been cruising and reading post.  Thanks to all who provide informative information for all to see and take away what they can from it.

Was wandering about the 15-20% discounts, my dealer only gave me 15 percent discount on the exhaust after I purchased my yellow black 2012 SEUG, how can one go about getting/recieving discounts??  :nixweiss:

Ford had a similar 2 tiered pricing one was for a stock order ie weekly the other was for a next day or priority order I think thats why the 20% off dealers take so long to ship ... orders are done on the weekly schedule then they ship out to customer ..also accounts for the strict restock fees for returns

Well, maybe the price increase won't be so bad for some of us...  i.e.   a few years ago I had a brain fart idea that I was going to build a custom Bagger and started buying up parts, including a Ness Pro frame... The idea lost steam so i sold the frame last summer.  With these price increases I should get more $$ at e-Bay on my other HD Accessory items.  :2vrolijk_21:

Hi Joe.  Getting discounts is the same as it is anywhere else, be it a car dealer or a furniture store or your local haberdasher.  You ask for a discount, then you make your purchase decision based on the reply.  These days it is very easy to comparison shop thanks to the internet, so purchases other than emergency stuff can be researched for best price as well as availability.  Just be careful to compare apples to apples, and always include shipping costs and taxes and fees in your comparison.  Some folks offer a great price to reel you in, then hit you with stiff shipping and handling fee's.

If you have a good relationship with your dealer, and he is one of the good guys, maybe you should sit down with the boss and discuss the entire discount situation.  If you plan to buy a lot of accessories and have them also do your service and accessory installs, you represent a significant revenue source to the dealer.  To gain that business he should be willing to offer you better pricing than some guy passing through making a one time purchase.  Rather than have to negotiate each individual purchase, perhaps you can negotiate a blanket discount for all parts and services.   :nixweiss:   As they say, nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Jerry's right - give it a try - what's the worst they can do?
Take away your birthday?
Cancel Christmas?
Charge you more?
Nah, at worst they'll tell you nice try but no cigar.

Mea Culpa...

Sorry guys. No cross-the-board increase. Discovered that I was  looking at HD Canada accessory catalog. LOL!

So, what online site can you get 20% off.  Most of the site's I've seen are from 9% to 15%.
