If you really want a street glide do not get the springer.  You are comparing a sports car to an SUV.

Personally I have no problems with my 2008 FXSTSSE2; I always ride at least 100-150 miles around town with no aches at all, and ride out to laughlin every year (375 miles) and took the long way to Sturgis SD (1,750 miles in 4 days) this year.  With the proper mods (seat, extend forward controls, apes & windshield) the bikes are plenty comfortable for occasional 300-400 mile days.

If you plan on ridding 300-400 mile days several times per month, forget it.  As everyone states these are not touring bikes.

I agree, well said.  Added a FXSTSSE '07 four weeks ago.  The more I ride it the more I love it.  Only 3300 mi on the bike.  I can see riding 300+ mi a day, but would still use my '08 CVO Ultra for extended trips.  Will probable take Ultra to Daytona next month.  Wife loves the Ultra, but agrees that the Springer is way more cool.

I rode my 2009 Springer:
From North of Seattle Washington on the back mountain roads (twisty) to Glacier National Park and back in 2009 - 1200 miles with the wife on back.
From North of Seattle Washington on the back mountain roads to Yellowstone Nat Park and on to Sturgis.  All the rides that week and then home in 2010 - 4000 miles total.
From North of Seattle Washington on the he back mountain roads (starting to see the pattern here?) through Canada to Bamf in 2011 - 1500 miles.
This summer I will ride home from Norfolk Virginia all the way to North of Seattle.  Oh guess what, not interstate - with the wife on back. Planned route - 3800 miles.

I have a Danny Gray seat, hwy bars w/pegs, heal rests and 14 inch apes.  So my situation is improved but I boldly disagree with everyones statement that this bike is for straight short rides.  I love long rides and I stay in a tent most times.   I am 34, so maybe younger than most in this site.  I don't know.  I get off the bike every 1h30m as a rule, but I look around.  See chit that I wouldn't at 55mph, eat at Mom and Pops, have a beer.  What kind of touring are you guys doing?

The only time I have ridden my Springer to the bar is when it is the only transportation I have at the moment........on a long ride.

You hit the nail on the head; I think we're at the young end of this crowd.  That being said, if you're young and in decent shape, take the Springer!  I have no problem with long rides and packing what I need for a trip.  If, on the other hand, you plan to ride 1,000 miles in a day with a total of 5 minutes of stopping...well, get a Cadillac.

I have a 09.  If you have a woman that can ride on the stock seat for more than 30 minutes you better do what it takes to keep her.  I can make about an hour with out stopping.  I plan to get a seat and bars soon to help on comfort.  I have taken it through the smokies and it is a great ride with the torque, but if I am going long distance I pick my other ride.

I also have a 2009 Springer, My wife could not ride very long on the stock seat. I purchased a Danny Gray 2-up allday seat and she had no problem riding 300 miles on it.  We are going on a 5 state poker run in May,we will do 1000 miles over a weekend and the wife is ready to go. You still feel the road and the engine but the new seat does not bite.

I also have an 2009 springer. To my eyes it's a beauty. Around town it's a great bike. For a 3 day trip or less, I use sissy bar bags from HD. For longer trip I take the plane and I rent a bagger.

It's a 14 inch. At 5' 11'' it's a minimum with an helmet. 15 inches with a recurve will be perfect for my size.

are perfect from the dealer setting !
