Bad Battery Tender
« on: February 19, 2012, 06:12:47 PM »

Went into the garage today to ride the 05 SEEG.....it would not stare

Walked over to the 02 FLHT......it would not start either

The 04 SEEG fired right up.

All bikes are on Battery Tenders, but 2 of them are bad. Checked the voltage on one and 0.00.....the other 6.38 and that is what the battery had.

Can't understand why 2 of 3 went bad but go out to the garage and check yours with a voltage meter to be sure. New batteries are not cheap.

Brian were green lights still on indicating they were charging? Just wondering because I just bought a new battery and want to make sure I don't run into the same issue.

I have green lights on all 7 tenders so I'm hoping that the green light is an indication that the tenders and batteries are all still good.

I guess one saving grace for me is when I got the battery yesterday I was told it hadn't been on the charger that long and was asked if I had a BT. Told them I indeed have one and when I installed the battery when I got back home and hooked the BT up to it the light started off red, then went to red on w/green flashing and finally to green on with nothing else. Hopefully that is an indication that it is working as it should be.

I sure did :2vrolijk_21:.... and I want to make sure this one lasts as long as the old one did. ;D I keep it hooked up to the BT religiously.

Ok, thanks. Hopefully from what I experienced w/the lights going thru the cycle w/new battery that mine is still good... hell it's worked good for the last 8+ years. ;) :D

Unless you have a dead short in the battery, the BT will think  battery is good. And not all BT's will shut down when charging a shorted battery.  I,ve actually seen a melted (fried) Battery Tender sitting on a roller tool chest when it didn't sense a shorted battery. There is suppose to be safe guards built into the circuitry on these things to shut down when a battery shorts but obvisouly they always don't work.  I mounted mine in an old electrical can on the wall hoping this would avoid any fires if it fry's unattended.    :o

Deltran is a great company. If the "tender" goes bad just send it back to Deltran with 15 bucks and they will send you another.
I have six that run constantly with a spare.

If your coming to Daytona for Bike week, there 'shop' is 20 min away. I have stopped at it with ones that have gone bad and walked out with new replacements at NO CHARGE.   :2vrolijk_21:
