62 Degrees today in St. Louis
« on: February 22, 2012, 09:18:45 AM »

Although we've had a mild winter here I've been itching to ride. Looks like today could be a winner.

Spring's right around the corner!!!!! :2vrolijk_21:

Good for you.  Hoping for the same up here in Michigan, but we will need some heavy rainfalls to get the salt off the streets.  The mild winter has the salt piles stacked high so they are taking every opportunity they get to dump that chit on the streets thick.  If it were December, they wouldn't bother, they would be more concervative with the salt and overtime payroll!

Predicted for 69 here downstate in Joplin.  Already rode to breakfast early today on the SERG.  Had the SEEG out for an hour just before dusk yesterday and the Road King mid-day.  It has been a great winter to keep the bikes out pretty regularly.  Gotta love it.  I'd do mother nature out of gratitude; even though she is old.

We've been riding around in 30s and 40s the past couple of weekends.  But it's supposed to be 74F here in Sacramento today. :2vrolijk_21:

Riding the country side last weekend......all the orchards are in full bloom.....something we'd normally not see for another 4-6 weeks.  Mother nature's fooling everybody and everything. :nixweiss:

We're seeing a lot of early spring blooming here too.  Just hope a hard frost doesn't sneak in yet and kill it all.

Same thing here in our town in Iowa, got a pretty good rain the other day & the next morning they were out dumping their salt brine everywhere again, and the forecast was for temps way above freezing...oh well

A question for you guys in Missouri, I'm coming down this weekend for a wedding, well my wife is, I'm going to take the opportunity to ride my new 124" motor for the first time!  :bananarock: Just wondering how the roads are down there? I guess I'm most concerned about having salt all over the roads. I've been kind of watching the weather down there where I'm headed & they had some rain showers just like us, but does Missouri salt there roads like here in Iowa?
I'm starting about 60 miles north of Sedalia, MO, heading south to the Ozarks, then up to Columbia & back to starting point, or wherever the trip takes me. If anyone from down their could give me their thoughts that would be great.
Like I said, we had rain & then they went out & spread salt, is that the case down around St. Louis too?
Should be warm enough to go to the car wash if nothing else I guess...

Can't say what St. Louis county area might do but rural northern MO doesn't dump a lot on the roads unless there actually is weather on the ground.  And there hasn't been this year.  Lower half of the state has clean roads now.  We've had no snow this year that required road crews to be out.

Same here in Scotland today - not far short of 60 degrees. We've had (in this area) an unbelievably mild winter, with not enough snow to even measure.  WAY too much salt on the roads to ride though.  Be a month or six weeks before we can ride.

I was in Columbia most of last week, and the roads looked fairly clean all the way up from Joplin.  We have had little or no snow here all winter so there has not been much call for salt/sand trucks this year.  We also had a pretty good rain last week which cleaned off the salt form the little bit of snow we had early in the month.  So you should be good to go.  Enjoy your ride.  :2vrolijk_21:

The summer may royally suck again.  But the winter has been outstanding.  If given the choice I'd take a little more winter if that could be traded for a summer that didn't have the desert blistering temps we had last year.

I hope not, although it did make yard work much easier last year.  I only mowed the yard like 5 times the whole summer.   :huepfenlol2:

That was the only bright spot.  It takes awhile to mow here too so I didn't mind not having to do it nearly so much.  Maybe the grass will stay dead from last year :2vrolijk_21: ?

Thanks for the replies guys!
It looks like the forecast down there for Sat in only in the 40s, but I've been chomping at the bit for a few weeks now since I got my bike back from the shop. I only got to ride it through the yard to the back garage, that wasn't enough...I may have to dress warmer, but I think I'll be to excited to care about temps!
