Cat removing drilling question
« on: March 02, 2012, 03:47:20 AM »

Hello guy,s
i have a question about cat drilling
i own a 2011 SGSE with only 200 miles on her and i have been reading the topic of the cat drilling.
If i understand it well i can drill the cat out but it will be only one of the two, is this correct??I have doubts about it.
Thanks

that's correct.

If you want to get rid of the cat entirely you have to cut it open and reweld it afterwards. This part is quite easy though - grinding the cat out is the beast  ::)

on the 10's-12's you need to be careful or remove the o2 sensors first...

i think i will not go for drilling out the cat and leaving the other one in it doesn't seem to me that the engine will turn in balance. I saw that s&s have some headers without cat. Are they good??? Or what else can i put on here in Belgium
Thanks

Vance & Hines sells a catless header.

If you have access to a metal cutting bandsaw, a wirefeed welder, and someone who KNOWS how to weld, here's what I did at my friend's car repair shop.
1.  pull headpipe off, and remove the 02 sensors.
2.  scribe lines along the top, bottom, and both sides of the "cat chamber".
3.  clamp the entire headpipe in a metal cutting bandsaw and cut through the middle of the cat chamber.
4   drill out 5 or 6 holes through the cat material in each half of the headpipe.
5.  chisel (air or hammer) out the remaining cat material, the drilled out holes makes this much easier.
6.  using the scribe marks to align the two pieces, clamp them together with a piece of scrap metal and several c-clamps.
7.  spot weld together, verify alignment, remove clamps and fully weld together.
8. reinstall the 02 sensors, the "black connector" sensor goes into the rear cylinder 02 hole marked "B", the "grey connector" goes into the front cylinder 02 hole marked "G".

The headpipe material is VERY thin, be sure the welding is done by someone who KNOWS how to weld.

the power duals are "communicating".

The Fullsac X pipe is a valid alternative but before before buying TTS make sure there is somebody around who knows how to use it.

The German importer who used to be quite helpfull died last year.

Fullsac sells a catless header as well, and there are a couple for sale in the selling section of this website (modified stock ones) for around 100-150 dollars. I have one myself already de-catted from a 2010 ultra SE for sale.

TTS is OK to use on your own... no TTS friendly tuner here but had no issues loading my tune... It has been discussed here the Vtune is GREAT for getting the tune spot-on.

sol, you may also want to look into if the stock HD exhaust head pipe for the smaller 96 cubic inch motor of same model year is cat free and if it is, you may be able to do a direct swap. I did this with my 2009 CUSE4 and it worked perfectly and is a totally stealth look. Unless you cut the header apart, you'd never know. good luck.

unfortunately all 09 HDI-bikes got the cat. 09 catless US headers were even more expensive than Fullsac or Vance & Hines when I checked in 09. But that may have changed.
