Paint on rear fender WTF
« on: March 02, 2012, 04:49:02 PM »

Waxing my 2009 SEUC and this is what I find to the left of the tail light. Sure wasn't that way when I parked it in the fall. This is my baby and gets the royal treatment. Heated garage and all the best. I am bumming. Dealer is looking into it but it is out of warranty and I am pretty sure the extended will not cover paint. Not sure what my options are as I am pretty sure I can't live with it. It slloks like the clear coat did something funky. Is there such a thing as getting a paint code for these bikes? I used to be a fairly good body man and have sprayed a fair ammount of clear. Anyone have a take-off fender in ruby red?

I dont see anything... but I did have a clear issue with my wife's 2011 Road King out of the box.

If you look to the left of the tail light you will see the clear has wrinkled in a bunch of lines. Happened over winter. Not sure how to fix. Has anyone been successfull with CVO paint codes. I would sand it and reclear it but if I have to go to the base coat I will have to blend it and without the right paint to blend it will become a big mess.

I think your best first option is to work on your dealer and H-D to make a goodwill adjustment and pay for part or all of a replacement fender ($825 MSRP btw).  That doesn't look like something anyone could reasonably blame on the environment.

My dealer is looking into it. I am not sure what the outcome will be. I can pretty much guess that it will be out of my pocket though. I would like to try painting it but am not sure if I can get paint or if there is a paint code available. I will wait on the verdict from the dealer first.

Well just as I expected...Harley says tough luck. You spend 36K and get two years on their crappy paint job. Should I expect different.
Anyone know how I can get a paint code or someone that can do CVO paint?

I would call around or ask your dealer if they know any reputable custom painters, maybe they can match it before they strip it down. JMO

Can't get your head around Harley's inconsistency on this crap.  Guy's here have recently received good faith repairs on 04 SEEG wheels with bad chrome.  Eight years old.  But some poor schuck with an obvious flaw that I can't think of any environmental factor for that is only minimally past the factory warranty gets told to pound salt.

I am less than pleased. I can assure you all that this is the last CVO for me. I would expext better based on how these bikes are played up and the price we pay for them. Never again!

That (justifying service by high price of our bikes) is a common sentiment shared here.  It really shouldn't matter though.  The guy with a less-than-10k Sportster shouldn't get jerked around either.  That Mother-Harley treats us all too commonly like mushrooms is a universal complaint regarless of the bikes we own.  The issue is far broader than just us small group of CVO owners.

It is amazing how they have such a loyal group of purchasing public. Sadly I think the younger generation will not be so loyal and the mother of all motorcycles will succum to lack of sales and revert back to the AMF saga that all but chopped them off at the knees. Well I either live with it,try to paint it or bow to the mother and pay the price.

Well I just took the bike to the stealer today and Harley is going to cover this on a courtesy warranty. Maybe there is someone at the MOCO with a conscience. I have a new born faith.
