Anyone tried the Butty Buddy?
« on: March 03, 2012, 01:07:41 AM »

Looking for some options for making the pillion seat a bit more comfy on the springer. It wouldbegreat to get some feedback from members who may have some knowledge of them  - good or bad.

I have no experience of this product but i can foresee abrasive damage to your original seat or your fender paint. Be warned!

Check out Mean City Cycles.  Send them your seat, tell them what you want.  I ws very happy with the results.

No experience with the product.  Can't imagine anyone here has (all too smart).  That thing on top of your existing seat not only makes the existing seat irrelevant and marks it up it raises the rider up a ton.  Honestly can't think of a single positive about either version of that product.  The on-top-of-the-seat version could even slide off the leather seat below it.  Either could be easily stolen (by someone stupid enough to think it was worth stealing).  And it's U-G-L-Y.  If a better saddle is needed get a better saddle.  Not some unsafe tumor that splats on top.

The fact that it would sit the BSR so much higher is a downside, IMO.  An Airhawk cushion would be a better choice for something to stick on top of the stock seat, as you don't really have to tie it on, so you can just throw it in a bag when you stop and get off the bike.  And it takes very little air to work...in fact, you don't want much air in it...just enough to keep you off the "real" seat surface.

Honestly, the Springer seat is not really designed for a BSR to be back there longer than a ride from bar to bar.  The only real solution for longer rides is another seat.  I'm sure Corbin or Mustang would have something that would work...either a Dual Tour type of seat, or a Solo with a passenger pillion that could be removed when not needed.

I agree with Midnight rider. Rode dynas for years, still have a FXDSE. First upgrade has always been a Mustang seat. Got to to keep that BSR happy or I am usally miserible. ;)

X2 totally agree with Twolane! No experience with product but that has got to be the most ridiculious product that I have seen in a long time. Living in Australia shipping your seat to Mean City Cycles would be costly. Just get a Mustang or Corbin seat and make momma happy!

Thanks guys, needless to say, i won't be buying one. Seeing as how i'll never sell the springer, it's either a new seat or make room for another bike.

Looks like the new seat gets the gig - I've still got all my hair, so i can't get a bagger yet. ooops just kiddin :P

I appreciate your honest opinions. Dave

Might I suggest that you try a solo seat.  That's how the springer really should have been sold anyway!  This bike is meant to be ridden alone.
