« on: March 04, 2012, 10:45:38 PM »

For those of you that have not done a HID conversion, Which brand and part # of H4 lamp do you use in your RG?  Silver Star, Pia, Other?      Thanks  "Bostonboy"

Have the Silverstar Ultra bulbs in the old 2000 SERG.  With the newer reflector.  While the OE reflector even using very good halogens on the Electra Glide was still only about 50-60 mph headlight at night the Road Glide's dual bulb setup with a good reflector housing does just fine with only the two good halogens.

The Road Glide is close to as good with the two SilverStar Ultras as was the Electra Glide with the HID upgrade.  The Road Glide is plenty good enough for highway speeds at night without issue.  Even with my old eyes.

X2 a pair of good bulbs for around $30 and the hi beam is fantastic

When one of my HIDs burned out on my 09 RG, I switched to Silverstar ultras... nice... and you can find replacement parts with ease...

Thanks for the replies Gents,  Is it true on the 09's you can change the bulbs without taking the outer fairing off?    David

I doubt you would get the retaining clips without breaking them...

Once you do it 5 or 10 times it gets pretty easy :)

I think there was a change in '10 or '11... I know the '09 the fairing had to come off.

CVOSTU     What part # ?   When I googled the Silverstars for the RG's I saw quite a few posts form other HD riders, [IN OTHER FORUMS] that didn't get much more than about 6 months before one blew?  I've never had a OEM go out in any of my RGs but I usually use the Hi beam during the daylight hours!   David

I have the Silverstar Ultras (Amazon, no tax, no shipping delivered to the door). They are almost 3 years old and no problems. I agree with Twolane, in a two bulb situation they are very good, and a loooot cheaper than xenon, hid.

I bought the Piaa from jp catalogue. Their part #380-889.    H4.  55/60w=110/100w.   $39.99.  Totally worth it.  Get it.  You won't be sorry.   :2vrolijk_21:
