MoCo Steps Up
« on: March 11, 2012, 12:39:38 PM »

Six weeks ago yesterday, the rear cylinder exhaust lifter self destructed! She had 35,600 miles on her. Out of warranty and low on cash, a friend and i tore it apart. The lifter roller bearing was destroyed, the lobe of the cam was destroyed, the oil pump was destroyed and metal shavings from the bearing were everywhere. The worst damage was the bore in the case for the lifter. At that point we figured that there was nothing to lose by contacting the MoCo to see if they would help. They made no promises up front, i took the bike to a local dealer for their analysis and the dealer communicated with the MoCo. A week later the dealer called me the news. They sent a remanufactured 110B for free! The new motor also has a 1 year unlimited mile warranty! The dealer had to do the install (to get the warranty). Bottom line was $1,400.00. It took 3 weeks to get the motor and 3 days for the install. Took it out on the road yesterday and she runs just like brand new. My garage looks normal again!

Really great to hear Fredwrench!  This is why I tell people to contact H-D and ask even if the odds aren't good, because you never really know.

It does boggle my mind however that they continuously screw over folks even when the bikes are still in warranty, but then every once in awhile someone has an experience like this one.   :confused5:

The lack of consistency is maddening and impossible to understand.  Can't help but wonder if its an occasional case of wanting (in this case) a failed low mileage engine for the product research it might offer?

Who knows.....

You just never know. I always believe in buying and servicing at the same dealer. When ever in a jam they always help me out even out of warranty. Oil, tires and service cost a little more at the dealer but when needed they seem to come thru for me. On my Chevy Duramax with 66000 miles just had a new Turbo parts and labor installed for $300.00. Bought, serviced everything at the same place. Bike the same way.
