Question about wind
« on: March 14, 2012, 11:22:43 PM »

Mt '12 sesg seems to catch a bunch more wind while riding. A lot more than my 04 seeg.  Can anyone explain why?   I have the same windshield from Windvest.   I seam to sit up higher on the new bike so I bought a 9" this time.  My 04 has the 8. Just seems to be a lot windier on the new bike  :nixweiss:

Maybe a different frame and seat height?  The old frames seem to sit lower, IMO.

on the 09 up touring models you sit much higher in the wind indeed and this will not be cured by a higher windshield only. It changed for me when I put a corbin on.

Definitely sit higher.   I have the 9" shield now,   Really don't want any taller.   Do the fairing deflectors help any? :nixweiss:

Stu, you can calm some of that wind by installing the chrome fork air baffle that mounts under the bottom triple tree, between the forks.  We've also added the adjustable wing vents that mount to the outside of the front faring.  The Kuryakn are spring loaded to lock in your choice of several different positions and don't work loose over time, like the HD wing vents do.

Hope this helps. :2vrolijk_21:

Take the lowers off, worked for me..especially if it is pressure coming up the front side of the tank...

Did your street glide come with this?

I changed to a 6.5 inch recurve wind screen. made a big improvement.
wind noise was cut by 30% at least, less wind. I also added the fairing wind deflectors that are adjustable.
I am a happy camper now.

It's the newer lowers that cause the problem.

X2

X3 - just added it to mine - big difference on the wind coming up from under the fairing.  It's also the cheapest mod I have made to my bike so far (like $30.00), and took all of 2 minutes to install.

Since the weather is warming up for us already - I opened up the adjustable wind deflectors in the lowers recently, and this reduces the air pushing up also.

Wha'dIsay?.....ridin over 60ish put your hand out front to left and right of the tank behind the batwing, you'll find the pressure coming up with the lowers on...center baffle dds, I have a chrome one you can try if you want but there was no air coming from the middle of the tank.....I dont have the cheap? $30 plassic thingies but may try them should I put the lowers back on...also the etms stopped coming on..but each HD is like a snowflake....a really hot snowflake but different from another hot as Duck snowflake.  Beat it hard, loosen up the insides it may cool off a little....come ride the '35, you will feel heat...hardtail handshift non abs riding hot... :D  Sunday noonish eta at Roland Martins Fish Camp ifin you want... ::)

I have the chrome air baffle on already.   I knew they had the plasic deflectors for the RG.  Didn't know about batwing bikes.  I'll look for those next.   Thanks for the help.  :2vrolijk_21:

This picture shows the wing vents on Terrie's bike pretty clearly...

and this photo shows them on my bike....

I didn't know they made them for Road Glides.
