I would check the Tombstone area. Lots of choices - - campgrounds, motels, cabins, house/apts for rent. Hell, I think you can buy a couple of acres with a house on it for around $60k.  The people who live in Tombstone full time are a very laid back easy going bunch and because it's a tourist town are friendly to strangers. After a couple of weekends, they'll get to know you and before you know it, you'll be one of them.
There is a pretty decent indy shop if your bike needs work and everything is pretty cheap. Weeknds, you've got the Crystal Palace with live entertainment and most of the townfolk hanging out. There's also Big Nose Kate's and Ringos as well as a couple other small watering holes. I can't think of a more biker friendly laid back place in AZ to spend a winter. If I had my way, I'd sell this place in Dago and spend my winters in Tombstone. I could buy a couple more CVO's with the money I'd save.

@BillyB:

Arizona in Winter must be great for biking ! I would stay there for winter too !!!!!

I talkes with a friend. He stayed a dozen times in the South-West and loves this. Not many tourists.

The guys living in California think it's too cold there in winter. They have never been in Germany, Canada or Scotland. But they are excused, because indeed the have a wonderful weather in summer. And thar they are used.

Last year in the end of May Early SUMMER) we stayed for a ride in the scottish Highlands. It was wonderful but rainy and temperatures about 39 degrees Fahrenheit:-)

But we return to there. The same weather in Norway ;-)

We visit South-West and the Nationalparks by bike this year in October and start in Las Vegas.

Have a nice weekend.

We have been in AZ almost 2 full years now.  Arrived in May of 2010.  We love it.  We live in East Mesa, nice location for starting rides as most rides either head North or East.

We love Tombstone & the area but, it is 4k' in elevation and winter is colder & they get snow.

The Phoenix area is 1200' give or take a few and the winter weather for the most part is great.  December & January can be colder, 40's but this winter has been beautiful.  High 40's at night high 60's & 70's daytime.

This past month has been mid to high 70's & into the 80's.

Now with all that said, there is not as much riding as you might think during the winter.  Remember AZ has mountains that go up over 9k' on the roads.  Everywhere that is 5k' or above is subject to being much colder & gets snow.  For us no big deal, if there is no snow we go, just wear your heated gear.  You can also head South towards Tucson, Tombstone, Bisbee, again once over 3k' heated gear makes it confortable.

We lived in N CA for 40 years, we will take AZ winter weather over CA, however if it is not raining CA has much better riding choices in the winter.

Don't know much about S CA, we aren't allowed there, at least that what Wrongway told us   :nixweiss:

Hope this helps

Terrie and I met several senior couples that were working in Yellowstone in the summer months......they told us that they all take their motorhomes and 5th wheels and head to "snowbird city" for the winter months.  I asked them where snowbird city was and they told me Yuma, Az.

Apache junction or East mesa are affordable winter retreats.

All due respect if any members live there but I find Yuma to be the armpit of the Southwest. It's just a dirty gravel pit of a town if you ask me. Sorry if I offend anyone with this post, but Yuma for me is like Gary, Indiana without snow.

I second the earlier suggestion to seriously consider Palm Springs, CA.

Arizona pretty much has it all :2vrolijk_21:
1. Great weather
2. No helmet laws (over 18)
3. You can carry a gun
4. Great roads

Pretty much a done deal :coolblue:

Oh lord.

Anyway, staying in lower elevation AZ will be your best best to avoid the snow.  However, if no snow is in the forecast, head up rt 89 (from Phoeniz area) into Prescott.  Awesome old west, biker town and a great scenic ride.  From there, push on to Jerome (an old mining town with a seedy history) and Sedona.  Beautiful riding and can be in the 50 - 60's on an average winter day.
