Absolutily!  We have always buzzed through Death Valley early morning in the summer to beat the heat so have never been able to see much.  We have been talking with others about doing a MITM/GTG on the HD's next fall or spring as there is so much to see there when it's cool enough to enjoy. Our daytime temps were about 80 and falling to 50 at night. The valley floor motels are $225+ but Beatty is only a few miles away for much cheeper, although with less ambiance,  accomidations. Doc, kleep us posted on your highlights and have a great/safe trip.

That was great off-road ride report on all of the places I've wanted to go to but couldn't....no dirt bike anymore.

However, I am going to Death Valley this weekend with my 'other' riding group, Orange County A$$holes.  Coincidentally, Doc and Terry will be staying at the same place, Stagecoach Hotel & Casino, so the CVO party will be in full swing in the parking lot and elsewhere.

By the way, there is the coolest ghost town, Gold Point, off of route 266 about an hour north of Beatty, NV www.goldpointghosttown.com.  Not to be confused with Goldfield on US 95.

We've been there about a dozen times and it never gets old.

Enjoyed that ride report. I also ride Dual Sport bikes, BMW R1200GS. It is an entirely different riding experience from a cruise on a HD touring bike. What I like about it is the go anywhere aspect of those bikes. Some of my buddies ride some really rugged terrain on theirs but I'm not comfortable with that size bike on the real rough stuff. Gravel roads, Forest Service roads in the mountains, some trails is about the extent of my comfort zone. My bike has the low seat on it so I can get both feet firmly planted on the ground (32" inseam). The extra ground clearance sets them up pretty high but the boxer engine helps to keep the center of gravity low enough that they aren't too top heavy; a full tank of gas and a top box full of gear is noticeable though.

Yea,the DS bikes are a lot of fun. We have a DL1000 and a DL650, Poor man's BMW's. We are thinking about Alpine Loop in Colorado in a few months.

Reservations are required; everyone's dying to get in.   ::) Like you didn't expect that.

Picking up a spilled offroad bike brings back a lot of memories.  I usually got stuck in creek crossings.  Ah, the good old days.

My idea of roughing it is when the hotel doesn't have room service...

After our first (and only) bike camping trip Vivianne tells me that as well....

I took this picture just after I told her where the "facilities" were.....

Actually it's not bad. The sleeping pads are 3" thick, part air, part foam. THe worst part is gettin up in the middle of the night to pee.  Get (partially) dressed, Find a headlamp, find the tent zipper then realize that was the screen zipper, find the tent fly zipper, close all zippers, try and stand up in a confined space when you're old, find the resroom, too far away so use a tree, hear lots of strange noises so have to hurry and then reverse the process. Now I'm wide awake  >:(
