A Different Kind Of Ride Report
« on: March 17, 2012, 12:48:26 PM »

Since there has been some expressed intrest in Dual Sport bikes on this forum I Thought I would Do a ride report on a recent Death Valley trip that I did with the ridingrubys (Chris and Anne) and sgchick (Melanie) a couple weeks back.  This report will include the time spent in Death Valley and not the 1000+ mile roundtrip to and from. All pics courtesy of Anne

Anne's view on the way up

Lots of blind corners on a thin road, good thing it was one way

Nearing the top

On the way down, didn't want to go over the side. Steep and Rocky

Found a mine and wanted to go spelunking but they locked us out

Closing in on the canyon.

The walls are getting steep

Pretty cool through here. The road doubles as a riverbed when it rains (which is rare but it all ends up in the canyon) and forces closure

Note the burms on the side of the road, they have to plow the pea gravel off to the side

We called those berms "banks"

Melanie decided to make a deposit at the bank. We hit a 6" deep bed of pea gravel and her front tire dug in and took her to the bank

I stopped off the road and sunk in so deep that I was able to leave the bike upright with out the kickstand! Pic of me trying to move it. Took some time though

It's dark in here

It's a big canyon

And beautiful

I can see the valley floor

And we made it

A well deserved late lunch
