An acceptable substitute plug with the same resistance is the Harley VRod plug and can help with summer ping as it is a little colder heat range.

Errors for non stock plugs can occur with the use of compression releases or non-stock plugs
the DTC is P1353 Front Cylinder No Combustion EFI or P1356 Rear Cylinder No Combustion EFI which can be viewed in the diagnostic mode on the lte models on the speedo.
By the way non-HD wires can cause the same errors, sorry to rain on the parade. And just a FYI spark plug wires are not performance enhancers unless they are worn and mis-firing.

PoorUrbanHdBiker   wrenches for me as I am hopeless with tools and I can vouch for him.  He DOES know what he is talking about.   Now, how do I break it to him that I just bought the K&N filter and plug wires.    He would disown me if I went plat plugs for sure...

Since 2001, H-D has been using the Delphi Ion-Sense knock and combustion sensing sytem.  This system uses the secondary ignition system to monitor each cylinder for combustion and for detonation, and any significant change to the electrical characteristics of the component parts (coils, plugs, and wires) can in fact create false data, poor performance, and error codes.  Of course, H-D always tells us to use only original equipment replacement parts even when there is no valid reason (like oils).  In this instance, however, there really is a valid reason to stick with O.E. parts.

Jerry

From Delphi literature:
Ion Sense Ignition System – The Delphi ion sense ignition system uses a conventional spark plug as an "in cylinder" sensor for combustion sense/control. This technology is in production on both automotive and motorcycle applications. Production functions of the ion sense system include misfire detection, cylinder identification, and individual cylinder knock detection and control. Future functions include fueling compensation for high driveability index fuels. All Delphi coil per cylinder ignition coils can be configured as an ion sense system.

hey urban you are right about the plugs, bike wants to run strong, but the K.N and 8MM wires are still on bike and they help a lot, i do have a question about E.F.I light that comes on and you wait 5 seconds it goes out and you hit start, but i have seen it go out and if i wait to long to start it comes back on, is this normal? i cant seem to get right answer, after it comes on again, i wait and off it goes, it will go on and off until i start bike, is this normal? still trying to learn E.F.I ,thanks for help on plugs, now does any one like to buy scremin eagle plugs for 1\2 price  :D

Nothing wrong with the plug wires. They are fine but a back to back test with the stock wires would show no added performance, none subtracted either though.
Not sure on the check engine light issue.

haze,

Normally when the check engine light goes out, then comes on after starting but goes back out after  8 seconds, it means you have a historical trouble code stored.  Historical codes are those items that are no longer current problems, but they remain in memory for a period of time so you can access them for diagnostic purposes.  They will eventually clear themselves after 50 start and run cycles, or you can clear them yourself.  See this thread for checking and clearing codes: http://flhrsei.org/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?num=1148514037/4#4

Right on the money!  As long as the stock wires have the specified resistance and no damage (internally or externally), there is no real performance to be gained by changing to a supposed "High Performance" wire.  Production plug wires, automotive or motorcycle, are not necessarily made with the most premium materials, due to cost considerations.  However, they are required to perform properly for the duration of the EPA mandated emissions warranty so they have to be pretty good.  Most of the difference between stock and premium wires has to do with the outer jacket material and thickness, with thick silicone jackets being the best for heat and damage resistance. The actual conductor material makes no difference to the spark plug or coil, as long as the proper resistance value is maintained.

If you want to replace your non-defective stock wires with a premium wire for the added durability, fine.  If you want to replace them for the "claimed" power increase, save your money (or send it to me  ;) ).

What about changing them for color reasons to match your bike. I guess that would fall under OCD/SEO. [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif]
