Question on heated grips
« on: March 19, 2012, 08:57:02 PM »

When I turn my heated hand grips on I get a hot spot on the end of right hand grip . Its hot enough that it forces me to move my hand up an inch or so , and if I do this both hands are  comfortable ( I usually set at "3"). If I turn Control Dial to "2" hot spot disappears , right hand comfortable but left hand gets cold . This is an annoyance more than a problem for me but I am curious . Is this normal ?  Does anybody have this problem ?

My experience with the Harley heated grips is they are very problamatic.  I have had issues with my wifes old bike and my old bike.  Probably an issue with the grip.

I have had heated grips on 3 different Harley-Davidsons, 2 RoadGlides and a StreetGlide.  I have never had any problem until my shocking grip problem on my current RG.  They have always worked fine for me.  I do always cover them with a baggie and rubber band when I wash the bike but have ridden in torrential rain as well with no problems.  Knock on wood, they work for me.  Never noticed a hot spot...

Between my 08SEUC and my 10 SEUC this will be the 6th set of heated grips being replaced.Mother Harley needs to find another source for their heated grips.

Never had a problem with hot spots but have with getting shocked. When I have my hand on a grip and thouch the brake or clutch guess it grounds the short. Knocked the pizz out a me a couple times. First time it happened took three trips to dealer to get it right. It has reappered a couple times, just pull the fuse and ride on. Last time it happened I was at the dealership and seen the wire they had pieced together too many times. Made them fix it right. No issues since.

My FLHXSE3 had HD grips installed prior to me taking delivery a few months ago.
The grips failed two days ago. Ben looking for a fuse that might have blown but none have. My conclusion is that the HD heating elements have crapped out. Will take the bike to the dealership in a few hundred miles time, once I reach the 1000 mile mark.
I have a set of heated grips on my Buell and for three years these grips havent let me down.
Will be intersting to dsee what the dealership say aboput my HD grips failing.  :jalapeno:

You may have to "respond" three times  ----  once to the service writer  ---  once to the service manager  --- and then to customer service at the MOCO :'(   search out a previous posting that I posted about the replacment grips on my bike, and the denial from the MOCO

Mine won't get hot at all unless I park it in the sun during summertime.  But, I guess that's normal.  :drink:

Is there any reason why the dial won't rotate from the 0 position?
