AVC on the 2012 SG
« on: March 22, 2012, 03:04:29 AM »

I just noticed something odd about my speakers and the AVC (automatic volume control) on the 2012 Street Glide.

I haven't been happy with the sound of the stock "premium" speakers.  With the AVC set at 3-4, all I could hear were the front upper fairing speakers.  Tried fading back to the rear speakers, and could barely hear them/sounded terrible.  Then tried with the AVC off, and could hear the rear speakers with the volume turned way up, but there was too much distortion at that volume level.

Anyway, I finally figured out that the AVC made the front upper speakers louder, but didn't adjust the rear bag speakers.  To hear the rear speakers while riding, the AVC has to be turned off, and the volume turned up too high.

Is this how the AVC supposed to work?  Only on the front upper speakers?

Bump

Does anyone with a 2012 CVO SG know if the AVC on the HK head unit controls your saddlebag speakers, or just the front speakers?

Thanks

Increases volume to all speakers.

Hey Tony -

Not sure it's accurate to say it increases "volume". From what I have seen it increases the gain out of the radio (or does adjust the volume without adjusting the displayed volume). I've noticed that (when parked) I can hit full volume and it is loud (and I mean LOUD), but crystal clear. You almost can't stand to sitting on the bike.

On the road with AVC set at 1-bar I can't turn volume up over say 60% without inducing distortion. At 40% volume it is where I would expect it to be - loud and crystal cear. Clearly the AVC does not adjust the "volume" (as shown on the display). Any insight here?

This makes it very difficult to use AVC when a system has been setup properly.
