Lower fairings redesign and wind
« on: March 22, 2012, 05:09:07 PM »

I have read where the lower fairings have been redesigned.  Can someone tell me what has changed from say the lower fairing design on a 2008 Electra Glide Classic compared to a 2012 FLHXSE3?  So I feel all the wind coming around and on top of the fairings that was never present on my '08 EGC.  Just curious what's different and why is the wind flow different now on the Street Glide CVO?

Thanks

The only difference in the vented lowers (introduced in '05 model year) occurred in '10 model year.  The fairing cap was changed to provide a short stub (probably to fit the '10 and newer Road Glide's fairing support brackets--earlier versions of the fairing cap had a longer stub covering the engine guard which would not work with the RG.)

What did you read regarding a redesign?

Did you have the adjustable air vent deflectors on your 08 EG and not on the new bike??

Nothing specific which is why I was asking what the change could be.  Just some mentions of a change.  For instance go to reply #43 in the "Question about Wind" thread and read where he mentions the design change in the lowers.  So basically I am wondering how this change can so drastically change the way the wind flows to direct more wind onto the rider because I have definitely seen a difference myself.

Yes, I had the adjustable deflectors that you could open or close to let more air in or out on the '08 EG.  Same as what the CVO SG comes with stock.  Definitely looks the same to me but I could be wrong.
