Ultra heated hand grips wiring diagram
« on: March 22, 2012, 11:39:40 PM »

Hello, just wondering if anyone has the proper wiring diagram for the heated hand grips that come on the cvo ultra's? Looking to put the proper heated hand grips on my cvo street glide. I have the parts (not cheap) but ready to go. I have aftermarket Harley heated hand grips on the bike already but opted for the proper looking parts instead. I currently have them internally wired. It was of no trouble doing the job. Just take your time and be patient, internally wiring is a snap. Had them on for a year and have had zero issues.

Thanks

I don't have a diagram, but I did the same thing this year. From what I remember the grips have two power wires for some reason. I know I connected one to a connector under the fuel tank but I can't remember where the other one went to. It really shouldn't matter as long as the circuit can handle it.  I ran the ground to the ground block on the triple tree.

I would love to see a wiring diagram for a 11-12 bike.  Got a friend who has a 12 and the heated grips do not get very warm even on the high setting.

The attachment shows the 2010 CVO Ultra wiring to the grips.  See connector 189 on page 1 bottom center and connectors 189 and 206 on the second page.  Hope this helps.

The reason the new ones don't get as hot is the MoCo put a voltage divider (resistor) on them. Took my '09 in under warrenty for grips and when I got it back grips were much cooler. Asked about this and they said it was the new retro kit. Warrenty ended....removed resistor...back to normal.

The heated grips stopped working on my 2008 Ultra CVO.  I checked the main fuse on the left side of the bike; fuse was good (even replaced it to make sure).  I downloaded the wiring diagram that was posted (thanks!), and it appears there's a second 5A fuse somewhere on the bike.  Problem is, I can't figure out the location of the second fuse.  Anyone have any recommendations?

I would like a wiring diagram.  Can not find one in my service manuals.  Does anyone have one.  It may show the voltage divider resistor.

Don't have anything newer than 09.  This post and next will be 08 and 09 for comparison.  Citation to Clymer Publications.

I have these syle diagrams in my manuals but they do not show all the wiring for the heated handgrips.  Just show basic diagram with connections to main harness.  Resistor must be in the handgrip harness.  When I put heated grips on my 06 Ultra the instructions had a schematic on one of the pages.  But knowing how things are the resistor may not be shown anyway.

This and the next three posts will be the remainder of the 09 SEUC harness including the handlebars.  I don't see the resistor being discussed.

Perhaps it didn't become stock until after 09 so isn't illustrated in the 09's harness; or it's just left out of the diagram.  Or maybe I'm just not seeing the darn thing.

Once again all citations to Clymer Publishing.
