Mufflers
« on: March 23, 2012, 05:55:02 AM »

My all-time favourite muffler is the old, long-since discontinued 65115-98B, with the Screamin' Eagle script, and marked as not legal for road use, of course.

I noticed recently that they re-used the 65115 part number, as 65115-10.  The mufflers look THE SAME as the old ones, but I wonder if they are marked as legal for road use, and how they sound, exactly, compared to the old -98B so has anyone got them/seen them/heard them?

I find it strange that they say "Fits 50-state '10-later Touring models (except Trike, '10 FLHX and FLTRX, and models equipped with 110CI engines)."

Surely they'll physically fit ANY touring model, same as all other mufflers?  What's different about '10 & later models?  Got to be some emissions crap, but I can't see why they won't fit others.  Any ideas guys?

I had a set, same muffler Harley just discovered that on some of the later models they met EPA noise standards because of the catalytic convertor in the headpipe, they are just as loud on the non cat bikes as the 98 bs were
they spell it out in their ad disclaimer
( Designed to work with the headermounted catalysts, these pipes feature an open baffle design that produces a rich, deep base note that meets 50-state sound level requirements.

Thanks for that - sounds like good news to me, IF they are marked as street legal, instead of for race use only.  Are they?

Yes, but its limited approval, any exceptions are spelled out, they are not approved for any of the earlier models or 110 engines etc.

I still have a set of 65115-98B's in my attic that I took off my '04 Road Glide as they were too loud after I went to true duals on that bike.

I almost thought about pulling them down and putting them on my "new" '06 SE Ultra as it's using the stock headers. Although the V&H slip-ons I have on there sound pretty good....

Mine are no louder than my friend's V&H..... (I've previously used True Duals, now using V&H headers with the "Power Chamber")  They do sound (to my ear, of course!) a lot nicer than his V&H, and he agrees!  ;D
