TTS Tuners.?
« on: March 25, 2012, 09:49:58 PM »

Anyone have any recommendations of Tuner who does TTS tuning in the Central Fl area..? I have very light V-Tune experience, not enough however to feel confident that I'd have the bike dialed in.

Trying to eliminate pinging on a 2010 Limited (103) that's got woods 555 cams installed.

Looking to take a different tack on finding a tuner with strong TTS skills.

Any help would be appreciated.

CVO1717,

Well I guess you could sell it, but it would be of no value to anyone other than the bike it is married to.   When you use it, it marries itself to the ECM of the bike you are tuning.  There is no way to unmarry it either.

Matt,

FWIW you would need to run a datamaster data gather while running the bike, when you do this you would want to be sure you turned off the knock sensor so that you could gather the data of where the pinging is occurring so that you could make the necessary adjustments.   V-Tune will get the fuel right for Volumetric Efficiencies, but won't be of much help with the timing / pinging.

I suppose you could join some of the other scammers on craigslist or whatever and sell it, but I wouldn't hang around long enough for the guy you sell it to to find you. ::)  The TTS MasterTune communications module (VCI) is married to your ECM when you first use it, and unless you buy the version that is licensed for use with two bikes, it won't be of any use to anyone else.  The other VCI systems like the SEPST also get married to the ECM and can't be used by anyone else.

If you think about it, it only makes sense.  Why would a company sell one kit to one guy and then make it so that guy could use it on all his friends bikes and then sell it to another guy to do the same?  I think they'd go out of business rather quickly.  Of course, considering all the other pirating of music and movies and software that goes on these days, I imagine someone will figure out how to do it with these devices as well (if they haven't already).

Just wanted to add something to clarify my original post to be fair.

Doc is a great guy who did a great job on the install and was very gracious regarding follow up visits to try and clear up the pinging.

I went out on my own to find another way to get the pinging resolved and reached out to Bob Woods himself who invited me up to Birmingham to have his tuner at Rod's Performance take a stab at it.  Rod and his crew were very gracious and accommodating. They spent two days working on the bike. And felt that they had cleared up the pinging.  I rode the bike as hard as I could in those unfamiliar back roads trying to exercise the motor to verify the pinging was gone. However, I couldn't manage to re-create the noise at the speeds I was held to.  After returning home to Fl, I discovered the pinging was still there...  insanely frustrating as you might imagine.  Harry spent considerable time with me trying to work out the problem using the programs that come with the TTS.  After our best efforts I still get the ping at top speeds in the tall gears.

Not sure I've spoken with anyone else who's got the same set up on a 2010 103 Limited. Woods 555's, jackpot exhaust and HD Breather with TTS.  But from what I've gathered, unless I plan to do major jug work, this set up simply isn't optimal. Not enough compression is what I believe I've heard.

Looking to pull these cams out and take a new direction.  Again, I have much appreciation for the work Doc has done along with Rod up in Birmingham.  Unfortunately I simply don't like what the 555's have done in my 103.

This is my first experience doing any kind of engine work on a bike...   I'm a novice but learning quickly. I'm just happy I made my first stumble on my 103 and NOT my 09 SERG...

What's your cranking compression?
Florida is unique in that you have high temps, and you're at or around sea level most of the time. At any rate Cycle Dynamics, in Boynton Bch. can handle your TTS tunning chores. He's been taught by one of the best, Mike Roland, when we put a class together back in 07'. He's also a capable tech that understands hi-performance.  ;)

I do not know that off hand.  I could pull the dyno sheets I have following the tune, but I'd need some direction finding the number you're looking for.   :-\

Matt,

You would need to turn off your compression releases (in the tts software) take both sparkplugs out, hold the throttleblade open and put a gauge on each cylinder one at a time that measures pressure.  Crank the bike over till the gauge stops moving and that will give you your cranking compression.

Or.......
Since you have to take off  your air cleaner anyway to access the throttle blade, unplug the ACR's at the junction just behind the throttle body support between the heads.
Just a thought.

Or leave the air cleaner and connectors alone and throw a calibration in which disables the ACRs and has the throttle blade control set to go to 100% at all engine speeds?  Just a WAG...
