Setting your PIN
« on: March 26, 2012, 01:03:57 PM »

Am having problems setting my PIN, I cant get passed the first step. I turn IGN key to ignition and immediately hold both turn switches in until 5 dashes appear in odometer window. Problem is not getting any dashes in odometer window. Any help thanks.

Going off memory I think you have to turn the master switch on off on off and on to get into the programing of the new code.

The procedure for changing your PIN are in the Owner's Manual:  Ignition on, Ignition off, Ignition on, Ignition off, Ignition on... then LH turn signal 3 times... then RH turn signal 1 time.  Then the existing PIN will show in the odometer and can be changed.

When I set this my bike was pretty finicky so make sure that you press the turn signals all the way down.  Good luck...

It is also important to do this quickly.  Failure to do each step within the short time allowed will cause you to have to start all over.  I'd suggest reading the procedure in the manual several times until you can do it from memory.

On the Harley Davidson Riders Club of Great Britain forum there is a general policy about HD security systems.
That policy is "don't talk about it". Any mention of security and the mods take down the post.
Just a suggestion but maybe we shouldn't talk about how to see what the codes are or how to modify or bypass etc the security sysyems on our bikes. We are only opening ourselves up to the bad guys.  :jalapeno:

I respect what you are saying but the PIN can only be changed if you have the fob and the security system can only be disarmed with the fob or the preset PIN.  Therefore, if you don't have the fob or the PIN the system cannot be disabled.  I don't see how any of what was written results in "opening ourselves up to the bad guys".  We have posted nothing more than is already published for the public by H-D themselves.  :nixweiss:

Now if there was a discussion about how to override or somehow tamper with the security system that would be a different story.  Just my two cents...

Yes, if you don't have your fob or if the fob is not working for some reason you can enter a preset pin to temporarily (until you turn the ignition back off) disable the security system on the bike...

This thread has prompted me yesterday to actually go to the bike and practise all the various ways to activate and deactivate the alarm system. Changed my pin from dealer set value to my own code. Did the transportation switch off and photocopied the tear out card in the manual and put that in my wallet. I hate to destroy manuals so left original in the book.

I thought I was the only one to do this.  I feel much better now  ;)
