New crank bearing set screws?
« on: March 27, 2012, 08:19:30 PM »

I just did a cam chest set up in my new replacement motor and noticed two screws sitting on either side of the crank carrier bearing that wasn't on my original motor.  What was the reason for this update?

The two screws were added on all big twins starting in 2011 to prevent bearing movement.

Yup, don't want those bearings walking out of the cases.  Not exactly sure why that wasn't a big problem on the '99 through '06 models but became necessary on the late models.

Maybe preventative protection to counter those wobbly crankshafts....   ;D

(although I can't see them paying for two drilled and tapped holes for no reason)
