AMAZING Sound--THANKS TIF2 (Rich)
« on: March 31, 2012, 07:42:15 PM »

Rich and I became friends via this forum; and, the timing was right since we both wanted to try to mount two Rockford Fosgate amps above the HK head unit to provide eight separately powered channels for fairing, fairing lower, HD saddlebag speaker lid, and tour pak speakers.

We shared many phone conversations about the installation of the amps (which required taking a Dremel tool to the plastic cups that hold the speedo and tach gauges, as well as to the gauges themselves to remove molding material to provide space to mount the amps lengthwise), and many other subjects over the past 6 months or so.

Rich's thread is in this link:

http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=70520.0

After what has seemed to be forever (and it was trying to get the CVO speaker boxes and HD primed saddlebag speaker lids painted to match a custom HOK color), I finally got the speakers wired and could listen to the sytem.  All I can say is that it's AMAZING.

The difference between Rich's and my systems is the speakers.  I used Hybrid Audio Technologies Unique component 6.5's for the fairing and the included tweeters were installed (by Rich) in the Hogtunes Tweeter Pod I already had and which was already color-matched to my bike; Hertz HCX 165's in the CVO speaker boxes/housings in the vented lowers; Rockford Fosgate 6x8's in the HD saddlebag speaker lids (after trimming some of the frame for fitment); and, Polk DXi 6.5's in the tour pak speaker pods.

I still have some more to install (HD CB module and Ipod module), as well as cleaning up the wiring; but I had to relate what amazing sound is available without sacrificing space in the saddlebags (albeit a bit in the lids for the speakers) for speakers in the saddlebag bottoms or amps in the tour pak or bags.

Props to Rich for leading the way and, along the way, becoming a good friend.

I'll post some pictures soon.

Carl

Great to hear a project comes alive. I will be looking the same direction after I've replaced five or six amps under warranty. This is my second with 8700 miles. Anyway thanks for all the posts on this project as it will come in handy in the future.

Nice to see all that hard work has FINALLY paid off (for the both of us).
A very involved project to be sure, but to the VICTOR go the spoils  :)

Many (safe) miles of smiles to you my friend.

Watched Rich's installation thread with almost jaw dropping amazement.  It was a gorgeous installation.  Something absolutely worth emulating if for no other reason than to show how much see such work is appreciated.  Makes me wish my ears were still good enough to hear what is really good audio.  For me a long string and a tin can won't sound a lot different though.  But it's still a joy to watch what you guys have done.

I have an audio project going on at this time w/ Rich doing the install. I know my outcome will be great but I must say....after hearing Rich's system, I feel so inadequate! LOL.

Seriously, I have heard many systems before which were very good. Rich has taken this to a whole new level. The only problem is until you hear this system, You don't know what you don't know.  I have heard sound systems that equal his but they are installed inside real nice home systems. Great job Rich!

After talking with Rich I have also jumped in for audio bliss. Rich is very versed with different brands and components involved in these swaps. He has given me some pointers and is making a harness for my install. I am only doing the front stage this year and hope to do the rear in the future.
Thanks Rich....... :znotworthy:

Congrats on your install Carl  :2vrolijk_21:

congrats on your install.  It is a tremendous amount of work but so rewarding once it is completed.  Rich's install rivals what I have seen many professionals do.  I had installed the Hawg Wired amp and Arc Audio 6.5's in the fairing and lowers of my SERG and it just didn't do it for me.  Just got the SESG with the standard 8 speakers and its good but nowhere near what you 2 have installed.  so yes, I am jonesing.  wish that someone will come out with a solution that is more of a simple plug and play.  Oh well.  if you guys were closer I would start the begging.  Best of luck and enjoy.
