Head Set Silence!!!
« on: April 01, 2012, 03:52:46 PM »

OK, finally got my 3/4 ultra jet and installed the CVO supplied head set unit with mike and earphones. I went and plugged it in to the tank plug, flicked the speaker switch on the dash "up" the music on my fairing speakers died, but I get no music in the earphones!!!  Like a regular guy I played around with buttons, stereo selections options and still nothing. I am sure I am missing something!!  ( I did read the manual to no avail ) Any suggestions or advice!!??  Cheers.

You probably check this already but just in case, did you turn the volume up?

If the volume setting on the face of the radio has at least 4 bars showing and the speaker switch is all the way forward (No light) and you still have no sound then you have a problem.

I did exactly what you are saying and got nothing. I even plugged it in to the passenger connector and still noting.  I will have to check if my head set is functional. Will plug it in to a bike at the steelers to check.  Would my ( basic ) install of hog tunes amp and speakers screw things up. It was all plug and play and the stereo works great!!!

Does the unit itself have an on and off switch?  Or a small battery like a watch battery that may need replaced.  Just thinking outside the box  :nixweiss:

To check you connections from the GPS to the Aux Input install an SD card with an MP3 song on it and try to play the song. If you do not hear the song then try plugging in say an MP3 player or any thing you have with a 3.5mm stereo jack directly into the Auxiliary Input on the front of the radio and see if you can hear it. If you can hear it then you may have a bad GPS or the 3.5mm Stereo Male to Male cable you now have running from the Audio Output of the GPS to the Aux input may be bad.

To check your GPS, remove it from the mount, turn it on and navigate some place, you should be able to hear the turn prompts via the built in speaker on the GPS. If not then the GPS is bad.

If you can hear the radio via the headset then your headset is OK.

You can call me when you are at the bike and you can access the jacks from the GPS and I will talk you through some troubleshooting to help you isolate the problem.

Also, check to make sure your volume/mute settings are correct if you are using your GPS (or other external source) for your audio.

Well after some sleepless nights and experimenting my head set silence was solved. All I had to do is push the small plug in further in to the healmet end of the system. I mean I "really" had to push the baby in. It only moved in by like a millimeter or so but that is all it took. Works like a dream now. cheers.

not real sure but I think I read somewhere that the HK system with CB NIM and GPS have some weird thing done to where the left/right balance has been used for front/rear and the fader is used for the headset functions so the BSR can control headset volume the addition of the Hogwired amp may have screwed that up ..

Glad to hear you resolved the problem.  Personally, I think this is simply a "Canadian Thing."  You know, but the chops of the Canadian buyer--blame it on the guy who has the HD exclusives.  LOL
