No CVO diamond-cut oil psi gauge?
« on: April 02, 2012, 01:57:42 AM »

OK, I don't get it.  The MoCo gives us that stupid air temp gauge with the nice CVO diamond-cut pattern. But for those who want to get rid of it and replace it with a pressure gauge, they offer no matching part.  Not really interested in putting the old-style black, or even the titanium, gauge in my R-G, so where I would expect to have to shell out more $$ for a matching gauge, they don't even offer the option. Is this normal? :nixweiss:

I know there is someone out there with the ability to get this taken care of..maybe the sender could be celcius 120 c would read 270 f  ...what about it guys??

oops I just reread the post and your bike dosnt have oil psi?? gauge??

AND I want one too!!!!   :2vrolijk_21:  (Oil Temp gauge that is)

I got the 2011 CVO Roadglide Ultra last year, lovely bike but it has that stupid air temp guage.

But as you say, MOCO change the designs but then fail on accessories.

Here's hoping that somebody may be able to advise.  :bananarock:

It took Mother Harley years to finally release a gauge that matched the 04-05 instruments.  Even then it was never an absolute match.  Patience Grasshopper.

Any of the experts out there have any comments on the idea of adding an oil temp sender to the air temp gauge?? of course you would need to know metric for it to work ... Ive never been inside my fairing so I dont know what the back of the air temp gauge looks like or even if it has an external sender or built in

The air temp gauge does have a remote sensor.  They used to be located inside the fairing clipped to the left side fairing bracket, which of course was a really genius idea.  As the heat from the headlight and the sun cranked up the temperatures inside the fairing, the gauge would of course read nothing close to the true ambient air temperature.  I fixed mine years ago by extending the wire for the sensor and mounting it under the steering head bracket and out in the actual air flow.  Still isn't super accurate, but at least it's now prettty close.  Still a dumb thing to put on a motorcycle though.  I forget which year they did it, but Harley eventually saw the light and moved the sensor outside the fairing, to the left side of the frame at the steering head area.  It's still not directly in the air flow at that location, but it's much better than it was before.

I imagine if someone wanted to take the time to rig up a oil temp sending unit and some simple circuitry to match the resistance to the gauge, they could make it work.  However the scale would be off, and it would still say air temp on the face of the gauge.  And when you got done making all those mods, you'd still have a very cheap gauge that is reporting information of dubious value.

Why not just take two of the four gauges, you choose which ones, and throw them as far into the weeds as you can.  I vote for the air temp and voltage gauges.  Then fill those two holes in the fairing with something useful, like some nice tweeters for your sound system.  Or maybe you could create some fresh air ducts and adjustable vents, like some other brands have standard.

Don, they don't even offer the spun aluminum oil temperature gauge any more.  Not in the catalogue or website at least.     :nixweiss:

Thank god for historical service notes.  It was 75320-05.  Checking Lake Shore's website still comes up as an active number 75320-05A.

Not that many bikes (relatively speaking) used the spun aluminum gauges stock though.  So it won't be a surprise when the accessory matched gauge goes away.

Really surprised the oil hose cover exclusion is still there.  Perhaps mistaken but thought I remembered the installation instructions being revised to the way most of here did the install?

Don-On the "A" kit for my 2010, the instructions were revised-even came with the reducer fitting.

Jerry-I obviously overlooked the spun aluminum gauge-all I saw was titanium and either silver or white (or black).

Thought I needed an new gauge but had a loose connection on the back of the gauge.

Sad the money paid for these CVO bikes none of my gauges function properly.  Speedo is off by 10mph, voltage says 16 volts. gas gauge won't leave full, oil pressure reads 50psi, air temp said it was 90 when it was 50.

Give dealer opportunity to fix, but I might look into TelTek digital gauges.  See if they offer something that will work.
