Anyone got a very new RoadTech Zumo 660 or 665?
« on: April 03, 2012, 04:31:50 PM »

Can any of you with a new-ish RT 660 or 665 have a look at the file versions and tell me the version listed for the HD file (that is, the one that lists the dealers).  I'm trying to work out if it has ever been updated, so as to confirm - if it has - that the update is not an automatic one to your Zumo like other updates.

Thanks! :2vrolijk_21:

Well it's like this I beleive you mean the POI directory
I just got a new/refurbished rt660 back this weekend

file 006D135900.gpi  nill dates size 1132 kb
file D1685000.gpi   nill dates  size 422 kb

here an old article I found

G. HARLEY DEALER NATIONAL POI LISTING

You can load all 930 USA/Canada/Mexico Harley Dealer location POI's to your GPS unit. When you load the dealer POI database it will place a Harley logo on your map screen wherever there is a dealer. The POI database includes dealer address and phone numbers. You can set the GPS to alert you when you are within a pre-determined distance of any dealer (we used 5 miles). It will also give you a list of the 52 closest HD dealers to wherever you are at any given time, starting with the closest one. You can select any Harley Dealer on the screen or POI list and push the "Go" button and the GPS will route you directly to it. Fun stuff while on the road, don't want to miss those t-shirt opportunities.

The POI feature is a very valuable one and has many other good uses as well.

You can get the Garmin POI loader software along with a detailed description of what POI's are all about here: http://www.garmin.com/products/poiloader/

You can get the Harley Dealer POI database download from here: http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=56474 (just scroll down the page list to "Dealerships").

There are other interesting POI databases available there as well.

The author of the Harley Dealer POI database will notify you when he updates it. You can get his email address from the README file part of his download. He does this excellent work for free so be sure to thank him.

THIS INSTALLATION POST IS NOW BEING MAINTAINED HERE: http://www.zumoforums.com/index.php?topic=226.0

There is a very good Forum devoted to all user aspects of the Zumo 550 located here: http://razorbiker.com/zumo/index.php?sid=fa57b912ddc0def0f2083ae0d357bfeb[/b]

Happy trails!

dont know if it is current for 660 :)

1 more bit of information that may help someone...

From experiance do not update the firmware of the RT with normal Zumo 660 it will corrupt and make unusable the RT...      from experiance and Garmin can not get it working again over the internet with them remote operating my computer and downloading files to the RT had to send it back under warranty and they replaced the unit. :-[

The POI files from the RT will work in any Garmin GPS I beleive, I just copied the two files from the POI directory on my RT 660 and made a directory in a garmin 1490 called POI and copied those files into it. They show up under Where To, I also made up a .gpi file from walmart and Best-western I found on the internet into one file and copied it into the POI folders and they work under Where To/Extras/Custom POI's  :) :)

Hope this helps anyone who requires these answers  ;D

QuadRK, a thousand thanks for that!  :orange: :orange: :drink: :drink: :drink: :drink: :drink: :2vrolijk_21: :2vrolijk_21:

Your first reply is of limited use for my purposes - it's about a 3rd party POI database, whereas I'm working on the official RT One.

However, your

http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=5067#Instruct

reply is PURE GOLD! :)

It a) confirms my suspicion that the RT database is never updated in normal checks for updates, b) provides a newer version (albeit still with all the errors!) and c) provides an easy method for anyone with a non-RT 5660/665 (and possibly other models of Zumo) to add the "official" HD Database, with icon, to their GPS.  Well done!  :2vrolijk_21:

Now, I just need to find a way to edit the GPI file and replace it as a GPI file....

Here are some links that may help you edit .gpi files...Ron

http://www.gps-data-team.com/pda-gps-navigation/topic/2231.html

Thanks Ron - unfortunately none of these will work for this purpose. They convert the GPI into a CSV, which you tehn load back on to the Garmin with POILoader - and that doesn't leave you with the HD Icon in the "Where To" section.  (As it happens the two "guest" posts on your third link above are mine!)  :D

US & Canada H-D Dealers March 2012

H-D POIs 12 Mar5.zip

Filesize: 127.69kB  Downloads (32)

Previous Download | Next Download

Description: Renamed: *H-D of St. Augustine to *Adamec H-D St. Augustine, Liberty H-D Akron to Rubber City H-D, Hacienda H-D to H-D of Scottsdale
Deleted: H-D of St Augustine
Fixed Loc: Apol's H-D

New Features:
POI/H-D Dealers.gpi file, placed on Zumo 66x will put H-D Dealers in the Where to? as a menu button. This will not work for the Zumo 550/450.

Proximity alert only works if you modify and use the gpx file. Using both the gpx with POI Loader and the gpi causes proximity alerts to be ignored. Note on the Zumo 66x if you use proximity address, the phone number is not displayed.

* preceding name indicates No Service at that location.
