obsolete part questions
« on: April 06, 2012, 03:41:47 PM »

Hi all,
Trying to do some work on the FXR3 and have run into the dreaded 'obsolete part' issue! Harley's and other web sites are terrible about listing superseded part numbers.
Beside needing rear shocks and reading the 'shock' post and asking about interference with saddlebags there are many questions still, ie which shock fits? It appears that FOX has completely stopped making motorcycle shocks, is that correct?
Needing a simple front brake hose, #45299-99 is obsolete with no replacement identified on the sites! Even the washers? I'm just frustrated and wish there was a clear part number path to follow, is there one?
Ride Safe,
Robert

Maybe I have just been lucky or maybe I have a good parts guy at my local HD Dealer.
So far, If I give him my 03 FLHRSEI2 P/Ns, he can find the newer superceded P/N.

I also recall that one or more have posted links in the forum for Parts Lookup.

Something that may help you is the simplicity of thinking about part numbers that work for 1993-1994 FXR's.  Some of our part numbers for our 1999 FXR2's, FXR3's, or 2000 FXR4's had a 1 year run.  So taking a peek at the 1993-1994 FXR's might prove to be helpful.....

as for the FOX shocks, yes it's difficult to find those at all for our FXR's now, but just so you know another option if you are so inclined would be either the Progressive 412's or 440's.

Regards,

Tim

I have put Works Shocks on 4 of my bikes including one of my FXRs.  They will custom make shocks for your wieght and riding style.  Give them a call and I think they will be able to help you out.
