The kill/start switch may have something to do with this situation. (OK limited knowledge here) I recall that if a Harley on some of the later models is turned over on its side the bike will shut off automatically. Once you upright the bike the kill/start switch must be cycled in order for the bike to restart. This type of system (if it was faulty) might explain why cycling the kill/start switch seems to get it back in operation.

Got to keep one thing in mind, he says all his gauges shut off when this happens too, so he's loosing power to more than just the motor. Not sure if the tip over kill switch, kills all the power to the bike or just to the motor, like the normal kill switch? Anyone know?
