Paint Peeling
« on: July 24, 2006, 03:27:05 PM »

Anybody have problem with peeling paint?  My SEEG is 30 months old with 12000 miles on it and suddenly the paint has peeled off a portion of the front fender.  I know I did not hit anything and it has never been splashed with anything caustic.  Very frustrating, first peeling chrome wheels had to be replaced, then chrome footboards, and now the paint.  Of course, it is past the two year guarantee period, so I doubt the dealer will do anything unless this has been a problem with this model.  The bike is a 2004 Screaming Eagle Electra Glide.  Please advise if you have any input.  Thanks,

FB....in my opinion it's going to come down to the dealer and his attitude towards the problem.  Not sure if it's widely known, but a dealer can, under certain conditions enter into a "good faith" warranty repair even though the bike is out of warranty.  My advise would be to ask the dealer for help and see what he'll do.

History?
I know there is a lot more, but can't find them all.  There is a history.

Got to admit though Mike, in your bike's case it wasn't always the paint's fault.  ;D

 When waxing the bike the other day I noticed that some of the clear coat on the bottom edge of the rear fender was peeling, no obvious rock damage, etc.
  Took it to the dealer, they called HD, HD asked if this was the same bike with all of the other paint issues, dealer replied that it was.
  New rear fender is on the way.
  Now I'm frightened. That was almost TOO easy.  [smiley=huepfenlol2.gif]

  Meanwhile, I bought the rear chrome trim from the softail deluxe and clipped the nubs off, and applied it with double sided tape. It hides the peeling clear and IMHO looks great. Heck, I may even put it on the new fender when it gets here! [smiley=jalapeno.gif]

Mobe, I just hate that "this thread is ..... without pic" emoticon, but boy, would I like to see what this looks like on the fender. I have been looking at it, wondering. Would you take a pic and share?  Thanks so much.

 [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif] ;)  Wow, looks better than I would have imagined.   [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif] [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif]

And you have that wonderful cover for the SUBTORF that you removed too.  Looks fantastic.  What all did you have to do again?  Remember, I am not handy in the garage, except as a beer fetcher.
