Odd situation with oil pressure on 2012 SESG
« on: April 15, 2012, 04:20:12 PM »

I have a 2012 SESG with 2000 km (1200 miles) on it. It has been fine until recently. After the 1600 km service all was fine for a week. After riding for awhile the oil pressure goes to zero and the oil light comes on. There is an awful smell from the bike. The motor makes a ticking and rattling noise and the temp on the LCD dipstick is 310 degrees.

The dealer couldn't duplicate the problem when they checked it out so they gave it back to me. They checked oil pressure and checked for codes but there were none.  This has happened three times and now it's back at the dealer. I rode it until the problem occured and rode it in yesterday so they could see for themselves. I got 30 miles before it happened. The tech said he would check out the cam area and also inspect the oil pump. Very disappointing for a $36,000 bike. I told the fealer I didn't want the bike back until the problem was solved.

Any ideas or anyone see this before?

Got a tow and trailered it home. Im taking it up to metal dragon for repair screw those harley clowns. Were going to go thru the whole engine and make it right

This happened on my 2008 only opposite.  It had. high oil pressure.  Took to 3 dealers on a 3000 mile trip. Of course it was nothing to worry about from the dealers. I finally returned home an took it to my dealer. They said it was a sender or a gusher. I said no it was not. Put a direct reading guage on it was same as my guage. Said it wouldn't hurt. I'm thinking about blown seals. I ask him to call company. No hesitations, change the oil pump an plate. My relief valve was stuck closed from metal particals. Yours could be sticking open .. probably from those wobbling crank shafts. Excuse the typos my finger is to fat for the keys on my phone.

Sorry to hear that. It's a warranty issue so I'll give them a chance. Let me know how you make out please.

If the temp indicator was accurate it's unfortunately likely you've done some real damage given the amount of riding you've done.  No or very low oil pressure and/or volume with oil so hot it's begun to break down is a poor recipe.  Cylinder walls and pistons/piston skirts have to be a concern so don't let the shop stop inside the cam chest.
