Skyline Drive
« on: April 17, 2012, 10:57:27 AM »

We rode the Skyline Drive over Easter Weekend...be careful if you are going to ride this stretch of road.  The National Park Police had radar set up and roving radar traps.  We got stopped doing 52 in a 35 on a straight stretch of road   :-X...got a firm lecture but no ticket  :P !!  We headed out and the guy must have radioed a head, because 4 miles up the road another one was waiting hidden in the woods....fooled him though...be cautious!   :'(

Is that Skyline on the penninsula....the east bay or the one in Canon City, Colorado? :nixweiss:

I am guessing that Napalm is referring to Skyline Drive in Virginia.  The police there have been known to stop bicycle riders who come down the hills too fast.

That would make four. :huepfenlol2:

I was pretty sure he wasn't referring to one of those out west here......just funnin with him. :2vrolijk_21:

Of the three Skline Drives that I've been on, there are some pretty incredable views.  I'm sure the one in Virginia is the same but haven't saw any photos taken on that one.

Skyline Drive (VA) is right in my back yard... beautiful views, but speed limit is 35 MPH. Not the most fun place to ride unless you like to go slow (all the time). I may go up there once/twice a year and the only real use I have for it is when it's 90/100 degrees locally it's usually a little cooler (-15/20 degrees) up there in the mountains.

It really amazes me when I hear people talk about riding the entire Skyline Drive/Blue Ridge Parkway other than the views (and they would get old after awhile IMO) I couldn't ride them day after day... and it would take several days at the posted speed limit. :(

Exactly.  Thats why I usually stay south of C'Ville on the BRP and away from Skyline.

Heres one at the Maubry Mill on the lower Blue Ridge Parkway in VA

There's another Skyline drive--in Luxembourg.  The WW2 soldiers who were there named it for the similar views of VA.  From your photos, I can see why.  Great riding area, little traffic, and never saw any police.  Their Skyine runs most of the length of the country, and overlooks the German border. It's also where the Battle of the Bulge started, and there are numerous US monuments and memorials to visit.
